Tennessee football was killed by Gary Danielson.

Guess "he stumbled and fumbled" is a little catchier than "he stumbled because Billy Ratliffe ate his right guard's lunch and threw him into the backfield, thereby by causing him to trip over said guard's foot....and fumbled".

I wonder how much Stoerner had on that game. I'd be happy to add to it.

You could say Gary Danielson killed football in general. It's almost impossible to watch s game when he's providing the color commentary

Gary Danielson took over for Todd Blackledge as the color analyst on CBS's SEC programming in 2006.

The first game he ever called with Verne Lundquist on CBS was Tennessee vs. Florida. The Vols lost 21-20.

The next Tennessee game he called was the Alabama game that year. The Vols won 16-13.

Since that day, Oct. 21, 2006, Tennessee has not won a SINGLE GAME called by Verne Lundquist and Gary Danielson.

In fact, Tennessee is an astounding 3-21 on CBS since then (3-24 if you go back to 2005, which was pre-Gary), and all three of the games we actually won on that network were called by the "B" team of commentators (including UGA and UK in 2007). Never Gary and Verne. And since the end of the 2007 season, the only game we have won on CBS was against a 4-8 Ole Miss team in 2010.

Forget Fulmer making a deal with the devil for the 1998 championship. Forget Rohan Davey and his mother cursing the Vols during the 2001 season. Forget Lane Kiffin dumping us in the middle of the night and Derek Dooley piledriving the program nearly 6 feet under Shields-Watkins field.

The real reason for our suckage is Gary Danielson. This is irrefutable fact. He must be removed from all CBS programming in order for the Vols to return to relevance in the SEC.

Now, THIS....... is entertainment :)

You may be on to something here! We should start a fund to get Sean McDonough and Terry Donahue back on CBS. They called almost every game in '98.

...and now the real problem here may be Verne? Gary Danielson called our big road win over Miami in 2003 for ABC. Yeah, it's Verne.

Well Verne did call our win in the Swamp in 2001.

I love Blackledge. Bring him back!

Ugh. Every time I hear Danielson say the word "yaaaaaards" in his nasally accent,
I wanna jam an ice pick in my ears.

Golf is too fast for Verne.

Easily worst announcers in CFB.

And he is also the reason we had no players drafted in the NFL this year. :eek:lol::eek:k:

They always bring in Steve Beurerlein for a late season game and it the best comedy show ever.. He is really drunk or a complete moron or maybe both

They stole 1/3rd of it in 2001, Auburn stole another 1/3rd in 2004, and LSU finished the job in 2007.

Not sure how the math works out, but I think Florida has at least half of it on permanent lockdown since before Reagan was first inaugurated.

Shoot, this news is a real pisser, because I really like Gary Danielson's color analysis. But as of now, he's dead to me.

Well, I do think we'll be ranked in the Top 25 all season. We'll almost certainly begin the season ranked. If we get over the Oklahoma and Florida humps, we'll stay ranked barring a multi-game meltdown.

Given that, I think there's a good chance we could be the CBS game on any of these weekends (games in parentheses are our main SEC competition for air time):

  • 12 Sep -- v Oklahoma (LSU v Miss St)
  • 26 Sep -- v Florida (A&M v Arky, Auburn v Miss St)
  • 3 Oct -- v Arky (Bama v Georgia, Miss St v A&M)
  • 10 Oct -- v Georgia (Arky v Bama, Florida v Mizzou, LSU v USCe)
  • 24 Oct -- v Bama (Auburn v Arky, A&M v Ole Miss)
  • 7 Nov -- v USCe (LSU v Bama, Arky v Ole Miss, Auburn v A&M)
  • 21 Nov -- v Mizzou (Miss St v Arky, LSU v Ole Miss)
It all depends how the seasons of all the teams play out, of course, who's hot and in contention in both East and West. But I'd say we could have at least a couple of shots this year to overcome the "Jinx of Gary". :good!:

You are right, gary is a jinx , hamilton and dolls killed Tennessee football.

CBS is the worst. I always hate when they cover UT games. Longest commercial breaks and they will keep running full commercial breaks even when a game is completely out of reach.

I blame Bob Kesling.
I know all of this blaming broadcasters is all in fun, but Tennessee football was killed by Fulmer not hiring quality coaches to replace that quality coaches that moved on, especially David Cutcliffe and Rodney Garner.

I laughed at the thread title because I remember Ainge and JBay (when they were on the air) recounting how Danielson claimed that it was in fact Ainge's bad interception vs LSU that signaled the beginning of the downturn for Tennessee football.
