Tennessee football players involved in brawl

I'm not reveling in it. That's not my point. These incidents happen everywhere. I'm simply pointing out that just because a coach comes in and says he emphasizes character doesn't suddenly turn UT into a monastery. My beef is with fans who act as if Kiffin, whose team did pretty well in the classroom and off the field, was running a loose ship because he didn't go on TV and say "character" every third word and hire Tori Noel to treat player like they were five years old. Kiffin had three guys try to recover money from a third rate pot dealer and a guy steal a shirt. Dooley has had a guy get drunk and hood surf and a brawl. I don't think either scenario indicates the coach is lax in discipline. I think it exhibits the fact they are dealing with college kids. The decision making of 18-22 year olds is never going to be confused with the wisdom of Solomon.

YES... A good post Hat.. I finally agree with you about something..... opps, did I say that out Loud??

Yeah. The obvious cause of this incident was too much talent on the football team.
Yeah, it's not like Chuck Smith broke a guy's jaw at the Last Lap when he was here as a player. Talented players never get in altercations.

Hat you picked a bad day to be anti-Dooley. We have some upset posters on here/real fans. You could go post on USC's board.

A question that applies equally to the players.

True enough. However, it is my understanding that it is a trashy college bar. You know, where college kids go to get drunk and hang out. Not a place you would usually find many "responsible" adults...

How are you blaming this on this coaching staff? So you're going to tell me that incidents like this didn't happen with Kiffin? If you go that way, only one of the ones CDD recruited were out there fighting. 3 of them were from your man crush.
Where did I say I blamed the coaching staff? I'm beginning to see why colleges are forced to invest so much time in remedial reading comprehesion classes for incoming freshmen.

So since he's a cop, he cannot enjoy drinks in a club after midnight?? Wtf?? Also, he can't commit a public service which is his job when he's off duty?? It's not like the dude is a judge or anything and can't be seen drinking or out late in public.

He was probably having a good time and a drink in a "college bar" because he knew the owners of the bar and probably got free drinks...

Great, an off duty cop gettin free drinks, but then wants to pull his big bad badge out and play like he's in the right. Gotta love it.

I hate what happened because I am Big Orange All The Way but one report stated that 7-10 of the alleged were kicking a man while he was down. 7-10 on the quarterback is what we want to see. Not 7-10 on a downed police officer. I stand by that they are "barbarians"

I was right next to em when the fight started. I can say that they were trying to punk ppl out, my boy specifically. My boy walked off n some random guy comes n swings on the football player. Immediately 6 ppl jump him and stop him. Didnt realize it was the UT football team.

Bar Knoxville attracts a lot of non-student locals who have nothing to lose by instigating or getting into altercations like this. It's a trap for athletes with everything to lose as we have seen tonight.

It appears to me that most of the trouble that UT athletes get in is due to their involvement with non-UT students.

Man, it's getting too stressful for me to wake up to stuff like this every morning. I think I might take this year off and go to Care Bears on Ice at the Civic Coleseum instead of the Oregon game.

Way too much logic for this board.

Thank you.

I think that cop might have been the same one was cussing and rough handling a fan who had already been pestered by a drunk fan and had been nothing but classy. I'm not totally sure it was him, since it was nine months ago. If his superiors are reading this, if this officer worked section C during the Auburn game, he's a punk.

You could go play in traffic. It appears to me that it's a much worse day to be a naive lemming who thought by saying "character" repetitively Dooley would end silly behavior by college kids.

That's probably the answer. A well-planned trap by Knoxville locals designed to ensnare athletes by luring them into beating the hell out of a cop.

Or maybe it was just a bunch of college kids getting in a bar fight.

I owned a bar for 10 years that I sold in October. I never allowed anyone under 21 in because they cannot drink legally and all u are doing is asking for trouble. I have had as many as 350 people in it on a given night and never had to employ bouncers. You can stop 98% of trouble before it starts if you try. I would not assume the patron, off-duty cop, or players innocent. I would assume that Sandy Morton and husband are your main problems and should not be allowed to stay open. CDD needs to let every bar owner have his personal #, to call him when one of his underage players are in their business so he can personally go drag their tails out. Another sad day for TN. fans!!!:vava:

Skinny dude. Kind of reminds you of Barney Fife. Could he have been there trying to push his weight around since he was a big cop? Seriously, I hope the kids is okay, and I'm not making fun but I have seen these kinds of cops. Maybe they were picked on growing up and have a chip on their shoulder. Obviously they are not all that way. I just hope UT digs into this thing a little deeper. Could he have even been there partying while off duty? The KPD said he was a Patron. Well, that could mean different things. Are they covering for him? A patron can be defined different ways. One is a frequent customer.

did you really go here?? regardless of who it was, he was beaten by a gang of individuals twice his size, and you take the route of judging a cop by his picture in uniform??

You are obviously a person who has never been in a fight.

7 or 10 on 1? Every single one of those pieces of excrement involved is a coward.

Anyone who stomps on an person who is knocked out also should be curbed.

I have seen a fraternity group do this on the strip and I intervened on the side of the guy getting ganged up on.

Only complete cowardly neutered losers attack 1 guy as a group.

If your buddy has a problem with someone and asks you to get his back, it is so that if more than 1 person intervenes against him, you take them out. It is not so you can go jump someone with him.

If you are the loser who has gotten a kick in on someone who is on the ground after he is knocked out, I hope you break both legs in a stair fall that knocks out your teeth.

I absolutely agree on all these points!!! Only cowards have friends help them in a battle that should be fought alone.

As for the coaching staff, discipline will always be a problem not easily contained. Better to emphasize character than not.
