No finger pointing here, whether Schiano would have been great or not, whether or not he deserved the backlash he received today from those in the Tennessee corner, One thing is certain. Tennessee football is gone.

Any hope we had of hiring a good coach and making a comeback is gone, the narrative took a bad turn for TN almost immediately. I fear that we will now have Hoke in 2018 and lick our wounds after what is sure to be the worst year in Tennessee football history.

Any shred of dignity we may have had is gone, either we are ridiculed for running off what may have been a home run hire or we are taking a hit for our AD being desperate enough to hire someone with suspect character. It’s a sad day for all of us, at this point our program needs to do a lot of soul searching and planning because next season will not be any better.

Wrong. We as a fanbase and elected officials took a stand today. The next head coach will likely not have the pedigree that we were hoping for, but it will likely be someone who embraces a challenge. But to say Tennessee football is dead because of a moral stand is asinine. It should actually make more people and parents like our fan base more. In a world where the SEC will do anything to win we vehemently said no to a coach that has a questionable moral history. Long run we win. Short term we may suffer. Proud to be a member of VN today

Agree. This mess will set the program back for several years. Our AD made a real bad choice and the program will suffer.

This is NOT a sad day. This is a GOOD day. The people of Tennessee put a collective foot down and said a sleazy, lying pedophile enabler is not acceptable for our beloved school football team.

Rather, a university showing rebellion against moral rot just might appeal to a man of honor and principle. Everything is literally up in the air tonight... tomorrow will no doubt bring some clarity, but character is not a bad thing. Not at all. Sorry if you bought the social bs.

And perhaps a new coach will sign a deal with an honorable AD, not the low-life that is over there now.

The above is absolutely incredible. "Any shred of dignity we may have had is gone."

How about we didn't let our dumb ass AD make a stupid hire.

Dignity? What you smoking? This is far from a sad day.

What we did today was through our collective effort averted a years long cluster effk that would have cost untold millions and set our program back for years.

Everyone who stood up and raised their voice to stop this should be very proud!

Not sad. It's you and your attitude that is sad!

Agree that the AD has really flipped the fanbase the bird with this one. He truly set the program on a bad path.

You guys are reading to argue, my point is that no matter where you stand the media is painting UT as a bunch of idiots. If you’re pro Schiano then we’re idiots for running him off, if you’re anti Schiano then we’re idiots for being so desperate that we had to offer him.

Agree! Today may be the first sign we actually have a pulse is many years. Let's don't pull the plug just yet.

I see your point. One failure is we haven't trotted out any talking heads to help spin the story our way. We have to learn our lesson -- fire Currie and everyone involved in this asinine decision and hire actual football people to run our sports departments (not stuffed suits)

I know some retail companies that made the same type mistake (quit promoting Store Managers to top exec positions and instead promote merchandisers and accounting types) and they have suffered similar fates.

Currie screwed the pooch with his presser and "we will only hire individuals of the highest integrity". He has to walk that back now and say "we will only hire individuals who were only charged, but never convicted: ...

you see things very differently than me, I'm proud of how our fan base reacted.

I see things quite differently than you do. Our fan base acted on rumor, innuendo, half truths and ignorance of the true facts to kill this hire. No one in our fan base knows what happened at Penn State because none were involved and none participated in the investigation. Those that did investigate took absolutely no action against Schiano and they would have if there head been any--and I mean any--evidence to support pursuing him. He has been vetted by several schools and pro teams and no one found anything that concerned them. Yet a fan base that falls for social media mob mentality kills the hire. I'm embarrassed.

I was not in favor of hiring him, but that was based on his coaching history, not on scuttlebutt and rumors.

Did you watch the game Saturday night? Curries solution to that problem was to hire shiano a coach with ties to pedophile U and history of being moderately successful at a midmajor program. He was Butch Jones with questionable ethics. I am very proud of our fan base . Currie and the Haslams tried to shove crap down our throat today and the fan base said we wont buy tickets for that. Chalk one up for the consumers today. WE should have done that when Jones was hired

lmao the white house got involved.

but nah, that was a ridiculous idea. What recruits would want to go play for an eye witness to sandusky? Everyone on that staff is tainted. Sorry if you think its unfair.

The AD could have still went ahead with the hire. They are ultimately in charge. Apparently they were swayed by the outcry. Personally don't know what to think. I've always said someone was innocent until proven guilty. He was not anyone I was wanting and not because of the questions. If TENN was gonna go for a coordinator I think there were several choices without the questions.

I can't start a thread, but it seems this might be a good place to put this.

UT Fans today stood against what nfl owners, players, politicians, celebrities, and major outlets have been afraid to touch. UT will thrive on the morality set forth by neyland and summitt. Fans live for the program, and will stand up when the AD wont. Proud to be a Vol!
