Why? See the vandy game? Had trouble with them (and yes i know its a rival and away game)

I wasn't happy with that performance one. It but after looming back at past meetings and out comes, Vandy seems to play us tough. Still that game was embarrassing.

Im just saying there's not a huge incentive (IMO) to have a big opening line on a game where the teams can be rather inconsistent

Good answers, but why have it negative(-3.5). If we're favored 3.5 points wouldn't it just be 3.5 or +3.5?

Because +3.5 is giving the underdog 3.5 points. So if they keep it within 3 it's considered a win by Vegas/whoever set the line.

spread is in regards to the home team, so you have to give up three and a half points if you want to bet Tennessee

-3.5 means the score at kickoff would be Iowa 0 TN -3.5

If TN wins the game by 3 points you loss the bet Per the bet TN lost the game by 0.5 points.

TN has to win by 4 points in order to win the bet.

Iowa plays to their comp so it really depends who shows up... and how healthy our boys are.

In case you're still murky...

Betting is all about having 50% of bets on one team and the other 50% on the other team. That way, the bookmakers are guaranteed a profit because they essentially let the losers pay the winners and they take a little cut (the "vig").

To ensure 50/50 betting, they have to TAKE POINTS AWAY from the better team, the favorite. So when Tennessee opens as a 3.5 favorite, it means Vegas thinks Tennessee will win by 3.5 points. To get bettors on both teams, they say Tennessee -3.5.

Side note: Half points are given to ensure bettors win or lose, no ties. If Tennessee were a 3-point favorite (Tennessee -3), then a 24-21 would result in a tie. No one wins, including bookmaker.
