CBJ obviously loves this university and team and has given extraordinary effort to restore TN football. Some of the disrespect thru these threads is staggering. After watching his latest statements, he is exactly right. The negativity is abundant and fabricated. This fan base is going to regret running CBJ off. Just wait and see.
the emotional reactions are a over the top. no disagreement. lots of piling on, and some misinformation out there. personally i don't have an issue with what he said, and kind of agree with it.
you just can't say it the way he did.
as for it being fabricated, i'll just say this, i've not been shy of my criticism of Butch's game management, nor his post game whiffs. he HAS had them.
i've also tried to call BS when some of his comments are just chewed up and spit out for the twitter and blogosphere out there.
but the reality is this, and this is the reason that anyone critical of CBJ's antics has the right to be....he should, at this point, be more aware of himself, how he's perceived , and that at a program like TN, when you lose games the way we do, to the teams we do, this is the territory you get to live in until you've built the equity necessary to ward off the internet vultures that's sole purpose is to make a living by using the hot takes you keep giving them.
if i were his PR guy, i'd be telling him to bring some levity to the situation...acknowledge the criticism, and throw in some self-deprecating humor. my opening line today would have been something along the lines of "so, what do you guys want to talk about today? y'all see that KY game?" or something like that. but that's not him, and in year 5, you can't just change your spots on a dime and it not be considered "phony".
so...he is what he is. and it's not changing, personality or coaching style, any time soon. UT just has decide at some point is that going to be good enough....before it's decided for them by a stadium half full of gators and elephants.
