Tennessee Dorms

I lived in Melrose from 74-77 and my dad lived there when it was new (50-51?). It was a graduate/upper classman dorm with gang toilets at the time and farly close to the hill. All my architecture classes were in Alumni Gym and Estabrook Hall because the A&A building was completed after I graduated. I liked Merlrose because it was close to the strip and the library and I had a private room on the first floor in Section D overlooking Andy Holt Blvd. It was right over the boiler room and had no A/C, but I rigged up a window fan. I had a VW beetle that was easy to park in the small on-street spaces with an E (free) parking sticker. I lived in Carrick one summer when Melrose was closed.

Lived in N Carrick. Most of my friends lived in Reese. Either is good.

I def wouldn't go for Gibbs

Presidential Court is definitely the place to live

Did anyone do the Living Learning Communities? especially the Venture community at Hess? I just want to know if that if is worth it, or should I just forget about it?

I lived all four years in No Limit Clement (mid-2000s) and really liked it.

Pros:
-As a biology & chemistry major I essentially lived on the Hill so it was great for the walks to class
-Spitting distance to the Strip (loved to watch the Strip on gamedays through my window before hitting the game)
-New lofted furniture as of '06 or '07
-Suck up to the RAs a little and you can get away with murder (if you're not a complete imbecile)
-Sophie's (I liked it, but not everyone does and it is not open on the weekend; if you're on a meal plan, you're hoofing up to Presidential)

Cons-
-Heat. With the heat being run by steam, once the heat is on it is on to stay. Thus, September can get a little... balmy. You can turn the heat to "off", but you can't turn the AC on once they switched it over
-Depending on the time of day or the day itself, it can be challenging to find a spot in Clement parking garage

I never had a problem roommate. My last two years I requested the room next to the RA's (don't have to share the bathroom with suitemates if you're next to the RA) and paid a little extra to not have a roomie so it was great for living solo. My first year we had floor-wide monthly LAN parties. Like I said, I liked Clement and met a lot of friends there, but that's just one man's experience.

Considering it was already becoming a dump in the mid 60s, I find it weird that Hess is open, much less suggested. I am ashamed to admit I was very much a part of developing it's reputation. Well, somewhat ashamed. Damn we had some fun times. Caught the RA's room on fire, among some really wild things. As someone says, it was all fun 'n games till someone got hurt, then it became hilarious.

I never went to UT. I visited my buddy up there twice though. My memories are soccer with a loaf of bread in the halls and some dude down the corridor who played "In the Jungle tonight" everytime he was getting laid.

Hess, for sure. The jungle. You will meet an entire floor of people, rather than just a roommate and your suitemates like in Reece or Carrick. We turned our study into a boxing ring, poker room, super bowl party, smoking den, beer pong room.... not to mention the multiple slip and slides. This was 04, and they've completely redone the rooms since then so that they have modern furniture and lofts.

Its extremely close to the library, has restaurants in the lobby, and is just a stones throw from presidential courtyard and the gym.

Right out the back door is the humanities building, where all your english, foreign language, and liberal arts type classes will be.
