Tennessee Defense

Gave up 75 yards on 14 plays and 7 points on the opening drive of the game. Gave up 88 yards on 13 plays and 7 points on the last drive of the game. In between, only gave up 10 points, caused 3 turnovers, and scored a touchdown.

Yess !! And after their opening drive AND sometime before their last drive, we scored 6 more POINTS than they Did, and I'm sure Coach Pruitt reminded our guys about this in the locker room, just moments after JJ grabbed and secured that on-side kick (and I'm sure Coach might work on even more adjustments this week during practices).

Go VOLS !!

We made some really good adjustments at the half. Defense was pretty solid most of the day. +3 in the TO column is always great and the touchdown was fantastic!
How long has it been since we had a staff that can make halftime adjustments? I think AOL Dial Up and Billy Beer was still a thing.

When we got the lead the defense hit a different gear. I wish they could keep it there all the time. Shout out to the Johnson boys today Johnson Jr and Deandre Johnson had big games for the Vols. I notice the DL getting better Gooden, Bain, Tuttle and Johnson Jr did the job for us yesterday.

Happy for the win....just don't understand the prevent D....never been a fan. Most teams do it, so must be a better tactic than I realize...just seems you're getting away from what got you there with the D strategy the whole game.

With 2 minutes and change to go they were trying to keep things front of them and make them use clock. In that situation i'm good with it. If you play your base, you run the risk if them hitting a 1on 1 on the outside for a quick score.

"Prevent" is to limit the opportunity for big plays by the offense. It limits the defense's ability to make big plays. They go together.

That sprinter Auburn has is scary fast. If I had a guy like that I would find more ways to get the ball to him. Also the type of offense Gus runs he has to have a running QB just like Butch but they both recruited pocket passers I don't get that.

Is it my imagination, or have things picked up sense Bain has become a regular on the line. He seems to be in on most plays and in the backfield an awful lot. If he truly is limited on ability, he makes up for it with attitude and enthusiasm.

JMHO on the prevent D. Fully understand the concept....just rarely see it work. Stidham is a very effective passer when he has time....rushing 3 gave him all the time he needed to pick apart the D. The reason he wasn't effective the whole game is because he almost always had someone in his face.

I'm no coach, never will be....but thought the lack of pressure was a tactical error to an extent....and they scored; albeit, with a little help in my opinion.

Our VOLS won, so in the end it turned out good.

I agree, in most cases prevent just doesn't seem to work. However, yesterday it did. A-burn could not score quickly. Had we not been "covering the whole field like a blanket", they had a better chance for a quick strike (maybe a short pass and long run) than they did facing the prevent. Most times I hate it, yesterday not so much.
