red zone defense. This may be beating a dead horse, because everyone knows the defense is bad, but I have not seen this stat anywhere yet and just came across it on my own on ncaa.com
Red Zone Defense - NCAA.com

Out of 33 opponent's red zone attempts, 32 had led to points. 60% (20/33) we have given up TD's! I don't know what the record is for worst ever in college football, but 97% has to be getting close to it.

That's a surprising stat considering how few times our opponents have to get in the red zone to score against our D.

If it is any consolation, we're 112th in total defense.

Only allowing a meager 6.31 yards per play.

That's funny right there. Looking at the other teams on there, Oregon and Alabama are number 2 and 3 in red zone defense (not surprisingly). Also not surprising, Alabama leads in the number of red zone attempts allowed at only 17 for their opponents, while Oregon has allowed their opponents into the redzone 38 times and have held them to only 58% scoring (bend but don't break, and also has alot to do with their fast paced offense)

So as long as we keep teams out of the red zone, we should be a great defense. All this time Sunseri has been trying to keep teams out of the end zone.

And this is Dooley's best effort. Looking forward to having him as a coach. This should have the recruits in a long line to come to the hill

So basically against TN the endzone streaches out to the 20 Yard line? Once the other team gets past the 20 its automatic points.

We are at 97%, which means Dooley only needs another 3% to set a record of 100% fail. I believe he can do it.

unfortunately, yes. you would think that big problems from a poor defenses would be easier to fix then small problems that have to be refined, so maybe this can still turn around next year. I am an optimist.

If my department at work performed like our defense, I would hopefully quit in humiliation before I was fired.

I know you're joking, but that's not even close to how percentages work. Once you've stopped someone once it's impossible to ever get 100%.
