Tennessee coaching search: PF thoughts, latest on top candidates

Maybe waiting until Thanksgiving is over

Pretty much nobody will announce a new coach until after at least the regular season (that's avoiding the never thing). Most coaches are coaching elsewhere and would not impact that team's play by announcing a departure. That could even have legal and contractual ramifications.

Even announcing an incoming coach before the season is over has a good potential to impact team play - unnecessary distraction and possibly a choice that would be unpopular with some on the team.

When the time is right ADs will make the announcements - regardless of when the decisions were made and finalized; and nobody on the outside is going to have the details about the who, when, where, why, how, and what of negotiations.

Right now, they are 5-6 and were 4-8 last year. Since 1999 they are 127-110. I don't care how good Rosen is, their team sucks and they have mostly been very mediocre since 1998. Their game day atmosphere is non-existent. At least in football, they are second fiddle in their own city.

Actually UCLA is second fiddle in college football in their own town - probably even worse a worse draw when you add in the pro sports there.

I bet we find out the latter part of the weekend. I think the candidate has been selected and he has permission to inform his family over this weekend. A family member or friend will leak it.

I bet that Currie is not that far along in the process. We are being too optimistic about this search. I also believe that we hire someone that we have not even considered. All other schools will have their guy and we will still be looking. Absolutely have no proof but just a gut feeling that I get

its time for us to get behind Mike Norville because he is the most realistic option. He will have opportunities to go to Arkansas and Ole Miss but he will gladly bring his show east to Knoxville. So he should move to the top of everyone's list.

He should have been first all along!

Gruden, Kelley, and Frost--I'll take Norville and be happy to get him!

Hope Tennessee gets the right head coach here. Going to be a lot of good openings in college football come Monday morning.

Hopeful we already have Les Miles locked up.

Will attribute that statement to you “anti-anxiety “ joint

Right now they have one of the top QB's in the country that ESPN highlights non stop
Before that they had one of the to qbs in the country, before that the top defense player in the country.
All hyped and shown on espn.

Plus they lead for chip Kelly
While Tennessee watches video of the Haslam's going on vacation.

(I watched it too so not poking fun). Just reality.

You have to be one of the most negative Vol fans I've ever seen. Every piece of poop that shoots out of your mouth talks about how we aren't a desirable place to coach.
I got news for you dude, Tennessee has everything any top team in the USA does. Facilities, fan base, stadium, money. We have it all, we just need a coach that has a few brain cells.

I assume you are speaking of Rosen, Hundley, and Jack in that order. Rosen won't be there next year so it doesn't matter. He has already stated that he isn't able to do schoolwork and play football. I think Kelly would prefer the west coast but UCLA is an adidas school, and I believe he is good friends with Phil Knight. Florida would be the more desirable position because FSU is down this year, and the talent is better in Florida. With Miami having a great run that could benefit TN, making central and southern florida a tougher recruiting base from Gainesville.

Just being realistic brother. Coaches have no allegiance to schools. There is no one out there that's a coach that's dreamed their whole life of coaching at Tennessee.

Coaches get paid a lot of money to win games. Coaches look at it as what school can I win at make millions and at what school could I do that the longest at. And what school has the best setup to come in and succeed at the quickest.

I love Tennessee and could not cheer for another team . But you have to realize after 15 years of Suck where the job ranks.

Especially when your making a change in a year where so many either teams with more wins, better rosters, better recruiting area, or nicer city's to live in to make a jump to NFL if interested in trying to get to that level are making changes too.

Rank the openings without Tennessee orange colored glasses right now. Keep in mind how shallow Tennessee is everywhere but running back and has 4 offensive linemen healthy

Florida
UCLA
Texas A&M
Tennessee

Might also add Arkansas and Oregon St. to the list.

Ok both Schools will pay 6-7 million a year for a head coach.

In Tennessee 6-7 million a year goes further than 6-7 million a year goes in Southern California. I'll give you that. However a couple of things.

1. We are still talking 6-7 million a year to coach football.

2. The $$$ you make off endorsements in an area as densely populated as Southern California pays so much better.

So your cost of living is higher in Southern California. However your earning potential is higher than your cost of living difference.

Need me to explain how to get a woman too?

Have you been to California? California takes a 10% cut immediately when a coach gets their check. I would say rent and home values in LA are triple what they are in Knoxville. It would be fair to say 7 mil in Knoxville is relatively 17-21 mil in CA.

No there is going to be a lot of good openings come Monday.... there are 3 openings now. And Tennessee is already playing from behind.

Florida
UCLA
Tennessee

In that order. Tennessee can't move up that list. Tennessee opening can only get lower on the list as more jobs open. If fisher goes to Texas A&M once the FSU job opening dust would clear Tennessee could be WAY, WAY down on the list.
Please give examples of how Tennessee is “ playing from behind “ .. you people and your defeatist attitudes kill me lol. When did Florida fire their coach ? When did A&M fire their coach ? Now ... of those three which ones already have their new coach in place ? What’s that you say ? None of them ? It’s all RUMORS AND SPECULATION .

Those Miami Hurricanes seem to have figured it out .
