Tennessee Cannot Run The Football vs SEC Teams

Against SEC Competition in 8 games in 2006 the Vols carried 210 times for 495 yards for 2.4 yards per carry and 62 yards per game. If you throw out the Vandy game(only 100+ yd game) they rushed for 332 yards for 1.8 per carry and 55 yards per game against 6 SEC opponents in '06.

In 2007 in 1 SEC game so far they carried 21 times for 37 yards for 1.76 per carry.

Cocker and Foster should be averaging 150 yards combined against SEC competition. Tennessee needs to get back to establishing the run and play some smash mouth football.

By the way, the '98 NC Vols rushed for over 2,500 yards against all competition.

It would make us all feel better if we at least felt like we were hitting people in the mouth.

at least get your numbers right.

210 carries for 645 yds (3.07 avg) through the 2006 SEC season. Avg. of 26 carries for 80.1 yds. per game.

Vandy and Georgia were both 100+ yd games (163 and 115)

I agree that TN can't run the ball. Personally, I think this is due more to our O-line than it is the running backs (albeit they aren't Jamal Louis' or Little Man Stewarts) and the further depressing thing about this is, is that CPF is the O-Line MAN, was an O-Line man, and our O-Line over the past 4-5 years has stunk it up.

I would think that expecting you to spell the names of star players on the team you're claiming to love is not in any way over the top. Typo, I get it, but that was a long way from a typo. Misspell any other word in the novel, probably OK, but the frickin' star - please.

Plus,add the fact that we're have all kinds of trouble stopping the run on defense.

as i said before,your not gonna win many games when you add the two together.

The main reason why we can't is we have not been committed to the run. We are just running here and there instead of trying to pound the ball like we used to do.

Yeah, it has nothing to do with the significant dropoff in talent at tailback and across the offensive line.

UT has not given up many sacks on Ainge, you would think if they can get that right, then opening holes would work also.

Maybe it is the play calling, the last game I told a friend watching the game, "watch this", then I called 5 or 6 run or pass calls for UT right every single time. I told him all the other team needs to do is hire a UT fan and they could tell if it will be a running play or passing play. I think UT is giving away the run, the O line is usually a tighter formation on run, amoung other items.

I think that has happened for two reasons:

1) Other teams aren't stacking the line and rushing a bunch of guys.

2) None of our passes are over five yards and the D-Line doesn't have time to get to Ainge anyway.
