Tennessee Cancels Classes for Home Opener

They really don't have a choice, wanna see swaths of upset students? Let some tailgaters take up the entirety of G10 before the late classes start.

Look for negative spin of the "Tennessee putting football before academics" variety, though. The Tennessean and Anita Wattawhiner are bound to be all over this soon. Haters gonna hate.

No, I agree. I actually just graduated in May (23 years old) and I can tell you there was no possible way they could have done both. I was wondering when the announcement was going to come. It was only a matter of time.

I can't even imagine what campus would look like with a 100,000 people walking around and tailgating all while another 20,000 students (those that don't attend games) are trying to make it to class. Would have been an absolute nightmare.

But damn if I'm not upset I never got to experience this. :banghead2::banghead2:

For sure wouldn't be surprised. UT did release, "To keep the same number of days in the academic calendar, another class day will be added at the end of the semester." (WBIR) I'm sure Anita will still find a way though.

So, if we WIN, will anyone show up for classes on Friday?? Sounds like a long 4 day weekend for most UT Coeds! GBO

Might not be such a great deal. To make up for the lost day the administration shifted the finals period to include the day of the SEC championship

Lots of universities do this. Not a big deal.

So the game doesn't start until 7:30pm and that would have impeded any evening classes for that day. The worst part is the tailgaters that would already be there HOURS before the game disrupting any daytime classes as well. Aside from the obvious traffic/travel issues the students would literally be sitting in class staring out the windows at all the tailgaters wishing they were out there drinking with them.

I'm now wondering if AEP will close their offices or at least the one in Tennessee as well? I'm off on Fridays but it would be nice to be off on game day to get in the right frame of mind. :p

There would probably be a good number of students who tailgated before or between classes too.

Well we are Tennessee.
You could have just as easily said -
The daytime classes disrupting the tailgaters.

Now if only they could get my employer to cancel work too!

I think of your employer knows your affiliation then you should be excused Thurs & Fri of that week. At least be able to call in or promise to check email if that helps.

I remember attendance was sparse following our Monday night victory in Baton Rouge in 2005. I've never seen the strip like that on a Monday night. That was an awesome night.

Yep. Anita doesn't let facts get in the way of her narrative. It'll be no problem at all for her to cite this as an example of UT's football-first "culture," then segue right into a rehashing of the lawsuit. The fact that it's a practical solution for the benefit of all won't merit a mention.
