Tennessee Bowl Game speculation (merged)

Remember when we considered the "Chicken Bowl" to be a bad year.

I'm pretty sure they are more concerned with picking a team as a business decision, not for personal vendettas against a rival coach. All signs are pointing to Auburn getting the invite because they promised higher ticket sales.

Hamilton was interviewed, after the game Sat. I believe, and he said this practice was illegal by the SEC.

I hate to miss out on Tampa, but if the Outback, Cotton and Chick Fil A really do work in concert to figure out 3-5, then it would make sense for the Peach to make a power play to get UT to the Dome for a couple of reasons.
1) AU and UGA may not get too fired up for Peach (AU was there two years ago - GA too close, no hotel sales, etc).
2) Peach knows how many tickets they will sell for a VT/UT matchup. Both fanbases have asked for this for a long time. Now it's time to put up. However, I'm curious how many VT fans want to make a 2nd trip to ATL considering they kicked their season off there against Bama. Methinks there will be no problems though...

There are a lot of factors at play here, and it will be interesting to see how it all plays out. However, if you had told me we would be in either of these bowls at the beginning of the year, I would've jumped at the chance.

It amazes me that the Outback is even considering taking Auburn over us. Yeah they beat us early in the season by 4 stinking points, but we finished #2 in the SEC East and had a better overall SEC record. UT 4-4 and Auburn 3-5 in SEC play. Unbelievable!

Va Tech terrifies me. I wanted to go to the Outback, mainly because it assured a victory over a terrible Big 10 team.

I cannot see a scenario where UT beats Va Tech...mainly because of the offense Va Tech runs.

We will beat Va Tech. Other than Ryan Williams they dont have much. They are not a spread team as much as they are a Pro Style offense with a Mobile QB. Who has a noodle for an Arm.

Per clay travis on twitter take for what it is worth btw wes rucker said EB was happy he wanted to play in atl

I dont think its as much as being illegal but more along the lines of one those "you shouldn't be doing this" unwritten rules.

or at least that is what I gathered by reading other post but I assure you, I am not the walking SEC rule book.

Is there any speculation that we might be playing Miami instead of VT? That would be a cool matchup as well.

I'm not 100% sure either. I believe I heard this in an interview by Dave Hooker. Hamilton did say it was against SEC policy.

Don't forget about their defense, which is really good, IMO. If it wasn't for their D, they would have lost more games.

Hamilton said it was against SEC rules. You can listen to the audio on GVX. Hooker is interviewing him.

The Outback is supposed to select the 3rd or 4th best SEC team. Auburn lost 5 of their last 7 games and didn't even finish in the top 4 in the SEC West.

Fail.

Au played Bama really tough so the hype around the AU fanbase is up and AU killed UT in Knoxville, so its not completely crazy IMO. Not to mention UT has been there the last 2 time eligible.

And with that cluster of 7-5 teams, they're given an out and allowed to take whoever will give them the best ticket sales, tv broadcasts, and above all get them the most money

they have the 3rd/4th pick, not they are required to take the 3rd to 4th best team

A friend of mine just cleed me to tell me they heard that the Capital One Bowl has already issued UT an invitation to play, on one condition: They want to do a commercial with Nukese Richardson looking at the camera and saying, "What's in your wallet?!"

Sorry if it has already been posted and I mssed it, but it was to good of a joke to pass on just in case...

I heard the joke with janzen...works a little better that way since he's still on the team :p

Most Kentucky sites are saying they are likely to play in the Music City, so that should put us in the Chick-Fil-A at the least.

Unbelievable, they did win. Who cares the Outback bowl starts at like 10 AM.

ding, ding, ding.......if they lobbied well, they did a better job than we did

You call a 4 point win killing your opponent??? But say Auburn played Bama tough and got beat by more than 4 points:crazy:
