Tennessee Bowl Game speculation (merged)

At the start of the season I was hoping for a Chick-fil-a Bowl at the start of the season so I would be pretty happy to head down there.

More convenient site is a plus.
Primetime is a plus.
Better opponent is a plus.
Va Tech's offense vs Monte's defense worries me. The wildcat/option offense has given him fits (see Mark Ingram in the wildcat, Dexter McCluster anywhere on the field, Randall Cobb anywhere on the field, etc).
Recruiting hotbed...big plus.

Do you think the Bowl will let Lane fly his chopper in from the roof? I know it's not retractable but they sewed it back together after a tornado a few years ago.

I like what you all are thinking. I live in FL, but I would rather play a tougher team in the primetime then play slow, boring BIG 10 at 11 in the morning.

Chris Low ESPN - Bowl scenarios: They seemingly change by the hour. At one point, there were discussions aimed at Tennessee going to the Cotton Bowl and perhaps Ole Miss to the Outback Bowl. Then Kentucky entered the Outback picture. The latest scuttlebutt has LSU going to the Capital One, Ole Miss to the Cotton, Auburn to the Outback and the Chick-fil-A trying to decide between Georgia and Tennessee.

If true we got hosed. Isn't there a smaller payoff for the peach bowl? Outback is seen as the better bowl. Sucks. No reason for picking Auburn over us in the SEC. We have a better record than them and Outback is supposed to select from the East.

And I know this is not the "end all be all", but has anyone looked at the poll on Outback Bowl College Football Game ? It shows UT and UK getting 31% a pc of the fans vote while AU only has 11%. If Auburn goes to the outback over UT I will be very angry, especially if it is because they "promise" to sell more tickets. Everyone knows that UT travels well and will sell as many tickets as the next guy. If AU goes for that reason its horse****! I love watching college football more than anything else but I have to say that the way these bowls are picked completely takes all credibility out of the selection system. We need a playoff of some sort!

Been to the Peach Bowl, I'd definitely prefer the Outback, even though the opponent would likely be VA Tech in Atlanta. Especially being on New Years Eve, makes it hard to do anything else that night.

Auburn will disgrace the sec on new years day.....Kentucky deserves Outback more. Auburn should be going to the Independence bowl or papajohns.com bowl

You seem to argue on both sides. paraphrased but you stated something like "Auburn beat Tennessee so their 3-5 record doesn't matter" and now it doesn't matter that Tennessee beat Georgia?

My argument was that they beat us on our homefield, and that they played in a tougher division than us. We went 0-3 against the SEC west.

Guys, I am hoping we do get selected above these teams, but I am not some sort of blind homer that thinks we had an amazing season and deserve the Cotton or Outback. We had 8 home games. We played 0 ranked teams at home and went 6-2 in Neyland. We only have 7 wins. This is as easy a schedule as Tennessee will see and we won 7.

hmmm look at it now, it doesnt let you pick an option for the SEC only lets you pick the Big Ten opponent.

Looks like they have decided who the SEC rep will be.

Well this could set up to be another chance for us to measure the progress of our program under the new coaching staff. Namely, the old regime made a habit of taking us down there (GA Dome...SECCG and Peach Bowl) and getting upset/stomped. Here's hoping this is just another facet of the coaching job that Kiffin does better!

KY would probably show up knowing that this is probably their last bowl appearance before their program swirls back to the cellar of the East only to begin another decade-long climb back into the middle tier of the conference for a few seasons. UGA would ensure a sell out crowd even if a lesser number of their fans would actually spend a night or two in ATL. Here's a link to an article from an SC perspective that gives a little insight into the Peach selection process:

those hits were during the season - give them 4 weeks to figure it out and I would almost guarantee they would know how to stop it. Plus we get some people healthy

Agreed. But we finished relatively well. Auburn lost 5 of their last 7.
