Where/who we play isn't nearly as important as the practice time...
I politely disagree. Other than the guidelines that say SEC EAST #2, why should we be there over some of the others? I think head to head should come into play. If UK or UGA goes, then I am with you. If Aub or Ole Miss goes, I can't agree. Head to Head should mean something in my opinion when teams are tied. Another thing to consider is the fact that if we beat UCLA, then we are not having this conversation. Or, make the kick at ALA. Or, not let a mediocre AUB team beat us at home. We are 7 and 5. It's not like we are 9 and 3 or 10 and 2 and getting hosed. I will be disappointed if we fall below Atlanta but it is what it is. Not to mention that for all the talk CLK has done, this could be one way some people decide to retaliate!
One factor that I think is in play here is the bad economy. I believe these bowl officials would like to keep teams as close to their base as possible. They know if they started sending teams far from their campus that attendance would be way down.
I think Auburn's 3 and 5 SEC and 5th place in the West record should mean something too

Because there has been a general precedent set. SEC East is relegated to Outback because the West gets the Cotton. SEC West would have BCS, Cap1, Cotton and Outback?! No way it should go down like that. If you're gonna have conference tie-ins, then keep to it. I could understand if Cotton and Outback had a flip, but thats obviously not the case.
