Tennessee Bowl Game speculation (merged)

Our head coach is no longer Philip Fulmer - it's Lane Kiffin. Our fan base didn't have to - yet again - watch a team underachieve with more talent and look undisciplined and not give up when things got tough.

We will have quite a bit more fans traveling to the Outback Bowl if selected this year than we had the past 2 times there. Plus we're coming off a no-bowl season - our fans are on the "Lane Train".

I agree 100%. But we are still paying for the sins of the former regime. And this is just one more of them. The perception is UT is NOT the draw it once was and we have not traveled well in the past. Once again, it is a financial decision period, not who's more worthy. I hope we get the nod, but if we don't, we need to be honest as a fanbase and understand why, so it won't happen again.

....except though that if we haven't traveled well the last few years as people have said, then it doesn't matter who our coach is or what has happened or change.

All they would have seen is that we haven't traveled well, and that's what matters. Till we have a few bowls showing us traveling well again- even if lower tier - then that's going to unfortunately remain the case...

UK is not going to the Outback bowl. If they had won they would have been there but not now. UK's fan base is not going to travel for football as good as UT's would. With the UK/U of L bball game the next day and the holiday attendance would be lower. My guess is UK will go to the Peach or Music City bowl. They will need to be close due to the basketball game on Jan 2. Any rumors of UK going to the Outback was before Saturday's game. Fear not, UT will be in the Outback or Cotton.

Whaddya mean boycott Outback? Heck, I'm still boycotting Outcrack from several years ago.

It's not hard to drive past a restaurant that's maybe mediocre on its best day.

So the Outback Bowl committee lacks common sense? I'd say that they can put 1 and 1 together and understand that if a team like Ole Miss who is ranked #4 in the pre-season falls to 8-4 - that their fans will be disappointed, thus less likely to travel as well as they would have if they have had a season they met expectations - same for Georgia. And if a team is going in the opposite direction - you're going to sell a lot more.

I think the committee is at least smart enough to realize how the changes over the past year will affect the ticket sales compared to previous years if they select UT. What do they use to measure "projected ticket sales"?

I understand and respect your point - but - I would seriously hope the committee does have some common sense.

I think you might have set your expectations a little high.

The BCS sucks... is ONLY about money, and that is precisely why those two bowls fall after NYD; to keep people from losing whatever little interest they have in college football after New Years. This year... whoever the so-called national champ is this year should feel very lucky.. especially if there are numerous undefeated teams out there. And before you get all high and mighty about your gators... look back at your schedule... It's no tougher than TCUs or even Boise State.. THIS YEAR. And it's damn sure not as tough as Texas'. Ya'll are probably gonna win it this year, but it is no more a true NC than those prior to the BCS.. it just has a name now.

Gonna have to disagree with you there, and Sagarin is on my side. Texas schedule was as easy as it gets in a BCS conference. One ranked team, Okie St. who didn't have Dez Bryant. OOC included UTEP, Wyoming, Central Florida, and La-Monroe. Florida had to play at lsu and at least had a mediocre Fl St., which is more than texas can claim.

James Bryant just posted on Vol Chat that the Liberty Bowl rep at the Memphis TD club informed them that the Liberty Bowl has been told Tennessee has been selected by the Outback and that the Chickfila bowl is now deciding between Georgia, Auburn and South Carolina.

Surely they aren't selecting who they pick for their bowl game by who wins the online pole.
Just like the fact that radio stations don't really keep track of every phone request when tallying daily/weekly "countdowns".
It could be one small group of people just voting for the same thing over and over again.

Thank goodness if true. This is all just stupid.

This is the reason you do NOT want to go to the UT site to sign up for bowl tickets. You can not trust the politics of the SEC or Mike Hamilton to stand up for his program. You think you are going to Florida and you end up in the Nashville toilet bowl.

what does MH standing up for our football program have to do with what teams the bowl committee picks? He may have given a pitch but it's their call

What are you talking about?

I guess if it does one thing, it makes it very apparent that Vol fans need to invade Tampa in droves so that we become a team that Bowls reps cannot turn down.

CEO Sullivan is the only reason if uk is selected over ut. Uk boards have speculated that they were a lock win or lose to ut. The guy runs the company based in Tampa that the bowl is named after. He did this to uga a while back, had the committe select 7 win uk over 8 win uga.

I don't understand why I shouldn't get my tickets in the UT Sports website.
Did you mean that I should just wait until after they figure out where we are going?
I don't think there will be a lot of people who will go buy tickets to the bowl game before knowing where it will be. Maybe some, but not most.
