Tennessee - Big Ten Bullies

Nope. If we can't win the natty I'd rather have the team we lost to by 5 points win it.

It makes us look good. And it'll motivate our players more since they'll see how close they are to being national champs.
With them getting to the NC game, we already look good for nearly beating them in Tuscaloosa. But, ultimately, teams are judged by wins and losses...not moral victories. We choked 3 crucial games away, and that's what recruits see...despite a strong finish. It hurt and will continue to hurt our recruiting momentum.

We compete head to head with Bama for a number of recruits. Them getting disappointed yet again, going without a Natty, helps us on the recruiting front. It's that much harder if they win...where they will no doubt brag about coming to Bama to win NC's. If Clemson beats them, that's one less feather in their cap and fewer bragging rights.

Plus, there's always the HATE BAMA factor. Would love to see Clemson blow their arse out, and then play "Rammer Jammer" Bamer azz-whooping hammer, while tears roll down Kiffin's cheek. :)

Sorry man but you just dont get it.

No. I think you don't get it.

College football today is all about perception. If the team you beat or lose to goes out and wins the rest of its games, it makes you look good. Whether that means your resume gets a quality win or the loss doesn't look so bad.

For example, Bowling Green winning 10 games and the MAC made our win week 1 look more impressive by the end of the year. I rooted for Bowling Green all year to win it's other games so we could look good.

Same reason I'm rooting for Alabama now.

In today's world of perception and the playoffs, I root for everyone we play (win or lose) to win the rest of their games.

It makes us look better either way. And all I care about is what's good for Tennessee. Not what's bad for Alabama.

I'm sorry but how in the hell does Alabama make us look good? Your logic says even though they're beating us every year, it's still a good thing? Seems legit but I wouldn't have expected anything less from you D4H.

Bama winning doesn't help us at all. If they win no one but TN fans are going to talk about how close we played them.

The only problem with Clemson winning is we recruit head to head with them for regional talent.

It's a lose/lose scenario for us. So in that case Buck Fama!

This. We also go head to head recruiting against Bama and that's a much tougher recruiting match up than Clemson (or pretty much anyone else for that matter). Bama looking good doesn't help Tennessee in any shape or form. I don't give a d*** about the whole state of Alabama, the whole state of Alabama, we're from Tennessee!

All into appearances, huh?

F*** that S***, I want Bama to lose at everything! Ask me how I feel about Fla...

Okay, okay, since nobody asked:
How do you feel about the Florida Gators?

Broken-hearted about their narrow defeat in the bowl?

I think Alabama winning the NC absolutely can help us, especially with recruiting. Selling young players on where we are going. Showing elite talent how their presence can affect games, especially when one or two plays in a few games could have been the difference between blowing out NU in a bowl game and playing for the NC.

I care more about liking Tennessee than hating Alabama.

Alabama winning makes us look better than them losing. Same reason I rooted for Oklahoma to beat Clemson eventhough I hate their guts for what they did to us.

Except that it makes them look better and us look worse at recruiting time, where it really counts.

If you're an optimist, this is a win-win scenario. If Bama loses, haha, awesome, eat that elephants. If Bama wins, caps a 9-2 SEC run in the bowls this year, leaving absolutely no doubt which conference plays the best football week in and week out.

I'm having a hard time seeing a down side to this game, however it plays out. :good!:

Actually, Clemson beating Alabama would make us look better for a couple of reasons. First, we are on a similar trajectory and timeline as Clemson, albeit a few years behind. Also, we run similar offenses, which Alabama has trouble with. If Clemson wins that shows that we are on the right path. Finally, it is Alabama and anytime they lose it is a good day for Tennesseans.

I think your theory applies, but only for good, high ranking teams. NOBODY cares what Bowling Green did outside their conference. Tennessee looks no different whether they had 10 wins or zero.

Look... Bama made it to their 4th National Title game since '09. That's an incredibly impressive recruiting pitch win OR lose. Especially considering Saban and crew are 3-0 in those games so far.

However, the Vols do gain an edge if Bama wins. Recruits, just like everyone else, look at recent history when evaluating a program. The Vols were mentioned multiple times in BOTH semi-final playoff games this year. People understand just how close this program is. We had the Tide on the ropes in Tuscaloosa. You better believe Butch will be using that selling point on the recruiting trail. We were a stop or two away from beating the (potential) national champion in their house.

I can't pull for Bama, ever! What's best for TN is to have the team we recruit against the most to lose. Everyone knows we compete against Bama everyday but it seems like we are always fighting recruiting battles with Clemson too. Dabo has it going over there.

My heart won't be broken no matter which team wins the NC. However, it will be a more impressive victory in 2016 when we beat the reigning national champions and as far as I know, we don't play Clemson.
