Tennessee basketball opinion question for y'all

It's easy to sit here and say if we hired this guy or that guy we would be in better shape. What if we hired Shaka Smart or Brad Stevens when they were assistant coaches and were obtainable? We may have won a national championship by now. TN was never going to hire Marshall. They had a couple opportunities and didn't. So, picking out a mid major coach that achieved success after 2005 and saying we would be better off is not realistic at all. Even the best mid majors do not equal success. Just look at Bama right now.

Thank you, good post.

Given the poster's hypothetical, all we can do is speculate. You, like knowthevols, are pretending like I changed the guidelines.

It is a totally unprovable scenario, so don't act like your opinion is rock solid. I'm not pretending that mine is. It is a total hypothetical, both your's and mine.

Does anyone here really think Hamilton could have made a hire as good as Marshall? Yes, he hired Pearl (his ONE & ONLY good hire in all his years) and that even blew up on him!
...and could Marshall have done as good in a real conference as he's done in a baby one?
Not meaning to slam him but any competition they had left for greener pastures.

Hamilton sucked.

Marshall, yes.

MVC is arguably the best mid major conference, and as bad as the SEC has been the last few years the talent disparity may not be that great.

You could present a solid argument that the MVC has been better than the SEC in the last 2 years plus this season.

I agree that Marshall could have been successful here. He did fine against the big boys en route to the Final Four last year.

MVC has been very strong conference for a long, long time. Losing Creighton does hurt the conference, though.

Marshall also did awesome job at Winthrop.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't he coaching the 15 seeded Winthrop team that we need a last second 3 from Lofton to beat as a 2 seed? or was that another team/coach?

Excellent point, thanks.

How did I know, of all the posters in this forum, that you would be the one to show up and piss in the pot? Any opinion (and make no mistake, this entire topic is opinion-based) that doesn't paint Pearl in the most positive light is automatically dismissed and ridiculed by you.

Obviously, no one's opinion on this matter is provable, but given Marshall's track record and success in a tougher environment, it is reasonable to hypothesize that it is at least possible that Marshall could have been as successful (or moreso) than Pearl.

Just because Pearl was the first to win 25 games doesn't mean he's the only one capable of having done it. That's a silly notion. Just like the notion that he is the only coach who can succeed at Tennessee is silly.

I really don't get why he isn't called out for his pot-stirring and trolling.

What shape would the men's basketball program be in now if Bruce Pearl had never been coach at UT? I think UT would have righted their ship eventually from the low spot that Buzz Peterson had them in during his time as Coach(Buzz IMO was the Dooley of UT basketball).

Dude, what are you doing...OH, OH, OH, JUST LET IT GO!
AND GO VOLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:eek:lol:
