Tennessee Basketball next year...(IMO)

Here's my question. Whose role specifically did Josh assume? We don't need one person to fill Josh's role. We need a team...each taking a specific role (PG, F, G, C, etc.)

As we can see Josh is tired and is not performing as well. That's to be expected. So we don't need another one player who has to take on every role. Let's get and develop the players in their respective roles so that we don't have to depend on one player. With the guys we will have next year and our new recruits we will be okay. JMO

Who said Josh is not performing as well and is tired? He had one off game shooting. He has played awesome and is the most important player on any one team in the SEC. Without him this team would be lucky to win 5-7 games.

Polson didn't play more than 4 minutes in a single game his freshman season, I'm not sure I would consider that much of a contributor?

Technically, just spelling the primary pg for 4 minutes would be contributing.

Not trying to piss against ya, jus saying.

Clayton Hanson Wisconsin
Cameron Mills KY

Hanson also never played more than 4 minutes in a game his freshman season.

Mills was the same deal...

So not really sure you realize it, but you're proving my point, none of the 3 you named are what I would have considered "fortifying the point guard position" for their respective teams which is what I was replying to in the post you quoted

Polson played 31 minutes for his entire freshman season and scored 1 point. You are right, he was not a contibutor.

With Bonds becoming eligible next season, that will really fortify the point guard position along with any signing, allowing Punter to play his natural shooting guard spot.

I would like to see UT get 2 bigs for 2015 so Carmichael could possibly take a redshirt season to get stronger and work on his overall game. I think Carmichael's best position would be at power forward going into the future.

Owens will be a beast once he adds 25 to 30 pounds because he can protect the rim on defense and he has a few nice post moves.

I look for Armani Moore and Derek Reese to be the main leaders of next year's squad.

Thoughts?

Bonds is NOT the answer at PG! if he has to play we are big trouble! need a PG and 2 true post players!

No offense but those seeing a better team next year are probably doing a ton more hoping than actually believing.

Depends on who UT signs that will be eligible next season, but I'm guessing when the dust settles the Vols will be about the same, it will just be more contributions by more guys. 20 wins will be hard to reach next season too!

You must have a much different definition of "basic logic" then.

Well we are currently playing with 9 players. We lose one player. Josh is good but he's not the superstar that some make him out to be. He's very good, don't get me wrong. But he's not irreplaceable. Arguably our two most talented players are a freshman and a sophomore who missed 70% of his freshman year due to injury.

We add some guys, some yet yo be determined. We get 8 guys who have played a ton of experience to return next year and we get McGhee back as well. Owens gets a year in the weight room which he desperately needs. I'm really excited about Mostella and Hubbs taking that next step.

But if you want the simplified version, we return 8 contributors, all of which have another year of experience, we lose one senior, we will have 13 scholarship players instead of 9.

Don't see us winning as many games next year as we have this year unless Tyndall signs a couple of impact players. Look at this team when Josh isn't in the game. They're pretty pitiful, especially offensively. Not sure who will score next year.

Inside game can't be worse. We will be better at wing even if no one really makes a big improvements just because of depth.

That will make very little difference unless we have at least adequate point guard play. That has to come from players not eligible currently. That information is not a surprise to DT and I would be shocked if he doesn't get someone who he thinks can at least be adequate. Who knows he might run someone off and bring in two guys that can play point along with a big.

Agree with post. Not sure we land an lmpact big but a quality pg is very possible. I believe Mostella makes biggest jump for next year. And all bigs improve. Romello White in 2016 is a stud down low.

I think they will be better. The current roster started the season with 5 months of working with CDT. Next year the returning group will start the season with 17 months in CDT's system. Josh will be done, but 4 or 5 new players are added.

Another thing with this team, the majority of the minutes played in 2013-14 graduated. More than 80% of the 2014-15 minutes return in 2015-16.

I got started reading this thread late and just finished. Distributed many likes. I believe the most important returnee next year will be CDT! Many players will improve and make big contributions. Donnie will develop a pg to get the job done in an admiral way. May be that a guy named Admiral can do what Josh has done this year. lol! The walk ons mentioned were freshmen, or were they rs freshmen? Bonds has been learning all year and who's to say what affect this will have on his game. A pg needs to be a distributor first and a scorer second, imo. Josh has had to do many things and, hopefully with improvement to the other guys on the team, our pg next year will not be faced with all of this responsibility.

Next season will CDT pace the floor waving his arms for VolFan to rise from their seats?
