Tennessee Basketball next year...(IMO)

C'mon gang. They only lose Josh, who has played out of position all year and is wearing down. Having a point guard and Jabari back alone cancels his loss. Mostella clearly has the offensive skill set to go with Hubbs and Punter. Baulkman will be healthy and better. Mostella and Punter will improve their handle for the point as well. Add in another off season to get Reese and Owens stronger. The problem has been in the paint and having to use Josh as the PG. That will improve. Whatever help they get from the recruits, which could be good, will be a bonus.

Better record than this season.

This team cannot add a Richardson in the off season so i don't think next year will be better.

Good grief.... I love JRICH and he will be missed but he is not exactly michael Jordan....we need to find a competent point guard and center.. The players on the roster should make at least a small step forward and we can definitely be better next season.

teams will be very similar win/loss record wise...i think we will be slightly improved but it will not show up in win/loss column...NIT team hopefully this year...NIT team next year as well...we all knew this was at least a 3 year build with what Alfonzo Fartin left us with...could even take longer with sanctions hanging over Tyndalls head which may push recruiting back...the man can coach...we will see if he can recruit or not...

Who is this point guard? We will need more than a point guard and JM to replace Josh. Josh is a leader and a great defender. Phillips is not a pg and Bonds < Josh. I hope CDT can really work some magic (How is that SD?) and recruit a quality pg and big man.

yes josh is playing out of position but he could make more out of the position when he getting guarded by a smaller player need to run a pick and role with him where he reveres the ball and post up. would add another easy 6points and get more open looks.

I think we will be slighty worse W/L wise. As soon as the possible sanction s*** gets cleared, the better as far as recruiting goes.

I do think switching to Nike helps.

Martin didn't have the NCAA hunting him. DT had a big time 4* kid ready to sign with UT, but Virginia Tech used possible sanctions to change his mind in the 11th hour. Once DT is free from the cloud hanging over him, watch out.

Its a shame that you had to even point these things out to the guy. Pretty obvious stuff.

A lot of valid and interesting points in this thread. The bottom line seems to be losing our far best player and leader vs having more depth and complete basketball team next year. I think one side underestimates Richardson's value and the other side underestimates the potential of everyone else. I think there is def a chance of the team being better if a leader emerges, strength and stamina are improved, and the newcomers play their roles well.

Agreed. Josh is a great player but basketball doesn't fold after he's gone. He's not the basketball God. There will be other players who step in and step up to the task, just as Josh did after the other great players left for the NBA.

This is true AuntieDee, but the point of disagreement is if someone can step up and fill his role next season specifically. What do you think?

It all depends on if CDT finds a PG in the spring which I think he will.....just like josh went from 2 ppg....7 ppg.....10 ppg to 16 ppg......guys on the roster will improve....Jabari and Carmichael have the potential to be much improved as well.

This team will show improvement each and every year exactly like the football Vols. After all Butch and Donnie are best friends and share their recruiting and coaching strategies with each other. I'll wager that no other university has a friendship that strong between the coaches of their two major sports. Now if Donnie can talk Butch into letting the dunking 364 lb McKenzie rough up those SEC 5's during basketball season, we'll be in good shape.

Best friends?

So u saying Hubbs cant be Armani and Armani can't be josh or even a little batter cause he will be in a straight attack role??? If true u can see talent and need to stop voicing ur opinion

Hubbs can't be Armani. And Armani sure as hell can't be Josh.

If this team wants to be better, they're going to need a perfect storm of many guys improving a lot and someone stepping up at PG and C. That's a lot that has to go right.

I agree. A bunch of people here are ignorantly minimizing the importance and value of JRich. I'm not saying he's irreplaceable, but right now I see no one capable of providing what he does. He is our leader, our best offensive player, our best defensive player, our PG, etc.

No single player is going to step in and fill that role, and so it will take major improvements and additions to collectively fill those roles. Maybe Hubbs becomes our best offensive player, Armani becomes our leader, Owens becomes our defensive stopper, and we add a legitimate, immediate contributor at PG. That's a lot of "maybes", and in which case, someone else has to step up into the roles those players currently occupy.

Here's my question. Whose role specifically did Josh assume? We don't need one person to fill Josh's role. We need a team...each taking a specific role (PG, F, G, C, etc.)

As we can see Josh is tired and is not performing as well. That's to be expected. So we don't need another one player who has to take on every role. Let's get and develop the players in their respective roles so that we don't have to depend on one player. With the guys we will have next year and our new recruits we will be okay. JMO

Your point is correct but somebody has to emerge as the leader and put the ball in basket.

I don't think anyone minimizes Josh but it happens every yr in college basketball....we need to find a PG, needed that every with Josh here....he is our leading scorer but I feel more than confident that enough guys will improve to cover that role on our team...as a defensive stopper....he is active but we play a zone now so that role won't be a big drop off.

Richardson is the MJ of this team. He does everything. This is the worst team in the SEC without him.
