A total of five Tennessee baseball players and five UT signees heard their names called this week in the 2009 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. With these five selections, the Volunteers have now had 109 active players drafted a total of 120 times since the free-agent draft began in 1965.

A general rule of thumb seems to be if they're drafted beyond the first 15 or so rounds, they is a good chance they'll attend college. Unfortunately, these pro teams push going to a JC so much that these guys could very well go that route and be a draft-and-follow instead.

You're correct VOLNBAMA, it's done.

Still, some of these mid-round guys will end up at JC rather than the 4-year schools they may have committed to, obviously to be eligible for the draft next year.

Yea, but Chase Headley and Luke Hochevar are both young guys in the majors with potential to be pretty good. Then you have J.P. Arencibia and Julio Borbon in AAA who should debut late 09 or 2010 and James Adkins in AA, but he needs to get his walks under control fast. Eli Iorg is in AAA too, but he isn't the prospect he used to be. Andy Simunic is in Low A for the Astros, doubt he makes it.

Also have R.A. Dickey and Mike Lincoln in the majors. I'm sure I missed someone though.

And, Yan Gomes was drafted by the Blue Jays.

The catcher from Bradley Central has decided to attend JC. Not surprising at all considering Forsythe's back, but hopefully he's the last one who changes to that route.
