After receiving an email to get up to 4 free tickets for the Vandy/Wake Forest game November 24,2007 I was somewhat alarmed seeing how I had giving my email address to them to them to find out how local high school players from SHS were doing at Vandy.
I did a little further research and came up with these attendnace figures as of 11-07.

Tennessee- Accum capacity-101.65%
Avg attendance 103,725

Vanderbilt-Accum capacity-85.64%
Avg attendance 35,626

I don't really care for Vandy at all but it's a pretty sad state of affairs for the fans not to be filling up the seats especially with the Wake Forest game(orvided UT wins Sat.) that could have bowl elgible possiblities. I know a lot of students wll be gone but still 86% capacity is horrid IMO.
Vandy will be playing in front of 68,099 more fans than at their home field.

People don't like going to watch their team lose.

It's why the Grizzlies attendance plummeted last year, why we had the lowest attendance in 10 years at UT 2 weeks ago, and why no one at Memphis or Vandy goes to their football games.

Vandy receives a lot of private donations from former alumni who are doctors and lawyers. They even support by buying season tickets, but could care less about actually going to a game. I used to get tickets from them all the time when I lived in Nashville.

Much of it is because they ran a $99 season ticket deal and Alabama bought out of thier alotment and became Vanderbilt season ticket holders.

I can remember the days when the Vols did not have winning seasons and Neyland was full every week-end..

well if vandy moved to another state they may have more attendence. Everyone wants to be a UT fan.
Seriously though I would imagine it hard to go watch your team lose. I am sure there probably isnt a real big attendce to go watch Duke football.
Of course there are teams like ND who always seem to have pleanty of fans no matter what.. I am sure there will be pleanty of people at todays battle of the losers.

In case you missed it, UT hasn't lost a home game in over a year. The reason attendance at HC was low is because it was in the middle of a 4 game home stand.
