Tennessee and ...

Not only is this quite possibly the worst post of the year, but it's been proven by many scientist and scholars that this is not physically possibly. If you really did grow up watching the Braves, and those players that you named, then there is no way in hell you can really like the yankees and the Braves.

I understand there is a big difference in "growing up watching" and actually pulling for a team though. TBS allowed EVERYBODY "grow up and watch" the Braves, so whether you liked them or not, if you had cable TV you saw the braves, so here's my anti-bandwagon/”Tennessee and…” rant.

1. Posts like this prove that there are definitely limits/rules to pulling for multiple teams or even "bandwagon" fans. It seems some people aren't smart enough to pull for multiple teams... I haven't read the whole thread but I'm pretty sure I won't see many "I like the Vols, but I pull for Bama when we're not playing them" or "I always liked the Cowboys, but dang I like the Eagles too!". Can't happen, shouldn't happen.

2. In my experiences, liking multiple teams leads to a ho-hum attitude towards the teams you "pull for". Pulling for just 1 team, good or bad, is like going all in every time they start a game, and you don't get that if you have that other team as a backup (or whatever you want to call it).

What this all boils down to is you can't like the Braves and the yankees chief....history says you have pick one or the other.

Before you'd go around calling a post the worst post of the year, I'd learn some basic grammar and spelling.

That said, how many times do the Yankees and Braves play each other? Why do I have to hate one or the other? And why is it impossible to cheer for certain players? You give absolutely no reason other than "you can't", which is pretty weak. At least make a point, chief.

I've played baseball for all of my life. I love the game. I'll cheer for the players I like and watch the teams I enjoy watching. This includes the minor league team in my town that's affiliated with the Red Sox- I hate the Sox, but I greatly enjoy watching live baseball so I go and cheer for them. No need to be a prick because of some perceived loyalty to a major league franchise in which you very, very likely have no stake.

CFB - Vols
CBB - Vols
MLB - Reds
NFL - Titans

I'm not much of a NHL or NBA fan but I'm pulling for the home town teams.

I'm curious why you say that we're "allies" with LSU. Not accusing - I pull for them at times also, but just curious about that statement.

not sure about that guy but until last season i didn't hate LSU. There really is on natural rivalry there and they are in the SEC so i tend to cheer for them if their game is on the tv. Don't know if we are allies.

I still don't really "hate" them. I definitely don't like them, but I have no horrible feelings toward them like with, say, Florida.

I feel the same way about Ole Miss, Auburn, and Mississippi State. I've got friends at the last two.

The test of a UT fan's age. [I also have nothing against Auburn.]

10-4 Hannibal

NCAA FB= VOLS, Both sides of My family are from Tennessee, finally got back to this great state in 2006 after the Army. So obviously I root for the Army Black Knights when possible.

NFL= Redskins, was born in D.C., Raised watching them, obviously not a bandwagon team!
Moved to Kokomo, Indiana when I was 7, Then came Peyton from UT so I had to root for the Colts as well. lived
there until i left for the Army.

Dont care about NBA, MLB, NHL, or NASCAR

Give me the VOLS and SKINS and Im happy! :twocents:

I used to hate them when I was younger. My girlfriend's cousins both graduated from there, and they're both cool guys who are knowledgeable and friendly (unlike Bama fans) so I've cooled significantly on them. I'm the same way with Virginia Tech.

I've heard that UNC has a beautiful stadium. I've been wanting to go there for a game for sometime, but been unable to.

It's nice, but the aesthetics of the place are directly in relation to the fact that it's not very big by SEC standards. They built it for looks, and nothing else. I've been in Kenan Stadium many times, and would just as soon be in an SEC stadium when I'm there. I actually find the Dean Smith Center to be much more impressive as a facility.

To the person who didn't understand why a UT fan living in North Carolina could root for Duke: Try living out here for 22 years among UNC fans, and you will root for Duke too.

I love Tennessee football pretty much unlike anything else. So thats just a totally different animal altogether. But i love TN basketball as well. Love the Red Sox and Celtics even though I've never been to Boston. The Grizzlies are the hometown team and I have learned to love them just as much as I love the Celtics. It makes it easier since one is in the East and one is in the West. I love the Dallas Cowboys, they are my NFL team and I am nearly as obsessed with them as I am with TN football. I think i just love football the best. All of the teams i like are the teams that my Dad liked growing up, and what can I say, I always wanted to be like him. I used to go to Miss State, so i cheered for them a bit for a while. They are a cute little team. They never really competed with Tennessee for my allegiance though. I have never really felt like the Titans were my hometown team, to be honest i dont like them at all. Although i'm sure i would if they were in Memphis.

1. Thanks for the grammar lesson
2. The braves lost to the Yankees in the WS twice in the 90's (era of the players you named). Yanks won it 4 out of 5 years in the late 90's...The braves won the East every one of those years so it became a "not those guys again" thing. And at that time, and still a little now, there wasn't much love for any team in New York due to it just being New York, and the whole John Rocker thing that came around.
3. Never said you had to hate one or the other, I said you couldn't like them both.
4. Never said you couldn't cheer for certain players.
5. I did make a point. If you don't like it that's one thing but at lease read it because it's there.
6. You're not the only person to play or love baseball.

And you're pretty much a douche for thinking you can tell people who they can and can't cheer for.

I second the lingerie team nomination. I also root for both sides in women's beach volleyball.

How about this... Bachelors from Oklahoma, MBA from Tennessee. Don't know what I will do in a couple of years when UT and OU play each other.

Very interesting. I'd imagine some will have a problem with this. You have two "other" teams, one of which is in the SEC and the other being Duke. I'm fine with it since you have a clearcut hierarchy and priorities. Some may disagree with me here, but i think your rooting interest borne out of hatred for UNC is a healthy thing.

Well Duke is bandwagon team for sure but I've been a fan of them since the Maggette days. UNC fans just act like they are God's gift to basketball and that everyone should bow down and kiss their feet, problem is, when they put a mediocre team on the court they make excuse after excuse. It goes beyond just liking a team to piss other people off or because they are good. I think Coach K is one of the best coaches in NCAA history and I've listened to several interviews with him on local sports talk, the guy seems really down to earth, especially the last 5 years. In any event, if I'm going to be a bandwagon fan I'm at least going to commit to it. Ha

Also forgot to address the Miss State thing. I went to school there and UT and MSU hardly ever play each other and when they do it rarely has a big impact on either team's season so it's a wash. I'll always root for UT over MSU but I don't think anyone would begrudge me rooting for the perennial cellar dweller of the SEC.

No problem from me. I find myself liking MSU, Ark, and SC because they are always playing the teams I hate.

Not unlike my situation. Cheer for both unless they play each other, and then cheer for the team you like the most. No problem here, as long as it's not like UT and Florida or something.

u should have seen the wagon errupt down here when lebron wade and bosh were all signed...now i cant escape any ale house without seeing 100s of heat jerseys...my fav is when i get called out for having my bandwagon hat on and i give them the starting line up for the 1996-97 playoff heat team lol that shuts them up real quick....pretty much everyone dowqn here is considered a "bandwagon" but thats just cuz we would rather go to the beach then sit in a stadium and watch the wildcat offense lol....so go vols heat and dolphins!

You should have been in cleveland when LeBrick made his announcement. It was like the Knox mattress burning incident, except it stretched across 5 counties. Jerseys, furniture, memorabilia out in the street on fire. Heck I became a cavs fan right away after I witnessed it. Call me bandwagon :)

haha ...i felt for those people at first but i look at it this way...the man played 8 years there and his contract was up..never did he say he was def gunna come back when his contract was finished..in fact everyone in cleveland relized that eventually the free agency was coming and they were gunna be in trouble so they tried to build a cast to keep him there but it obv wasnt good enough....they paint this young guy out to be a monster when he went out and basically carried that organization for 8 years..he owes them nothing in my eyes and i feel its a absurd thing to say hes a sellout for leaving on his own terms in (free agency) and trying to win a championship....but i still think that whole "desicion" fiasco was over the top and he went about that wrong...im a heat fan but if he had sigend anywhere knicks nets bulls i stil lwouldnt consider him a sellout for what he did

I just have one team in each category. I will root for a team I'm not a fan of but I won't go out of my way to watch that game if I watch it at all.

I grew up here in gator country so naturally all my teams outside of college are from FL

NFL- dolphins
NBA- magic
MLB- marlins
Don't watch hockey
College - grew up in an orange house. Mother was in the marching band for four years. Only reason I didn't go to UT was OOS tuition. Got accepted though :). And will apply for a master degree.
