For the sake of a marriage it is fine to cheer for your wifes team as well unless they are playing yours. Your wife should fully cheer for your team. The house divided crap is from folks with bad marriages whose primary identity and loyalty is in the wrong place.

I am a Vol through and through but I married a bammer. I absolutely NEVER root for bama, ever. My wife however will pull for UT unless we are playing bama. My strategy for conversion would not work if I gave in and pulled for bama even once. It is a strict no tolerance policy at my house. Even with this we still have a great marriage... all my girlfriends tell me so...

I am that guy, and I will say that I like them but less than the Vols (in all sports. except men's soccer. I'll cheer for them over anybody in men's soccer. and. . . I dunno, maybe lacrosse?). I'm already planning on making it back to Knoxville for some UT basketball games, and I have no plans to go to UNC basketball games, even though I'll live there. But I will cheer for them when they're not playing the Vols. Same in football.

I've heard that UNC has a beautiful stadium. I've been wanting to go there for a game for sometime, but been unable to.

Maybe if there's a home game on a day that UT doesn't play, I'll make it out for one. I'm sure I will at some point in six years there. I've been to the outside of the stadium, and my first impression is that it's tiny. But I might be a tad spoiled.

Don't get me wrong, I sincerely doubt it holds a candle to Neyland. I've just geard it's a pretty place. By the same token, Neyland is a beautiful stadium, too.

Thought this was funny...just passed a guy as I walked into West Town Mall putting on his brand new Grizzlies hat. He looked at me (obviously with a guilty conscience) and said, "Yeah, I just jumped on the bandwagon." Must of thought I just looked like the kind of guy that starts threads about bandwagon fans. No judgment here, brother. I think we're at least spreading awareness, VN.

Just waiting for TennesseeFan07 to come in here and defend his honor, lol. I imagine the 07 is because we were pretty decent in 07, so that's when he decided it was ok to become a fan.

I have no idea who his new NBA team will be, since the Lakers appear to be losing it.
What a joke on the lakers part that game was yesterday. Lose the game, and turn into thugs. It's the laker way. I wish the Grizzlies were who played them, and they tried that crap on Randolph. He woulda ripped Bynums face off.

I've been looking for a great idea for a business to make some extra cash on the side, and I think you just gave it to me, thanks!

I'm going to buy up gear for every pro and college sports team in the country and stockpile it in a moldy, non-climate controlled warehouse for a while. Then I will sell clothes that look worn out like they've been hidden at the bottom of the dresser drawer for years to bandwagon fans, so they don't have to feel ashamed.

Vols for any college sport. I generally root for other teams to lose: for example, if Alabama is playing Georgia, I don't root for either, I just root against Alabama (unless we need UGa to lose...). I root for whoever is playing Notre Dame. I generally want SEC teams to win outside the conference because that is best for UT in the long run.

Pro teams: Titans and I don't really care much for the NBA anymore, I am bored to tears by baseball, how is driving a car considered a sport?, and hockey is for Canadians and Yankees that wish they were Canadian.

I am not opinionated!

Oh yeah, and anyone who roots for a pro team simply because of a player is a situational fan somewhat akin to a fair-weather fan. If you are only rooting for a team for the short term, because of a player, because they are winning, because you are sympathetic to their city because of a hurricane, etc, then I put you in the situational fan category and have NO RESPECT for your fandom.

My Dad is a Colts fan, but he has been a Colts fan since the '50s, including all the down years. I can respect that. Those people who root for a yankee team in the middle of basketball/Big10 country simply because of a really awesome player are just a form of fair weather fan. Wear a Peyton jersey if you want to, don't wear Colts apparel unless you will still be proud to wear it in twenty years.

GO VOLS!

I can't stand people who have multiple teams/ schools they root for. I simply cannot understand how you can actually be a fan of more than one team, unless you perhaps went to one school for undergrad and another for graduate school.

Ut football and BB obviously

I'm also a fan of Mississippi State, but I went to school there for a while.

I'm a fan of Duke Basketball and have been since I moved to NC and that is due in large part to how obnoxious UNC fans are, so I picked their biggest rival out of spite and have stuck with Duke ever since. (Secretly though I love NC State, the consumate underdog of the ACC.)

In the NFL I'm a Panthers fan because before moving to NC we lived in NY and that never felt like home and before that we were in Memphis and TN didn't have an NFL team so your choices on Sunday were the Saints (terrible until the last few years), Washington (blah) and Dallas (yuck).

I hate Baseball. That pretty much sums up the MLB for me.

I love the Hurricanes in the NHL.

As far as the NBA I'm a fan of the Bobcats, to a point. It's a terrible product, MJ seems unwilling to spend money and we got dicked out of having the Hornets.

Everyone is a bandwagon fan to some extent. Though there are certainly teams out there that everyone hates because they win (or have won a lot in the past) a la: Notre Dame, UNC, The Patriots, Steelers, Cowboys, Yankees, etc. It's all about sticking with your guns through the bad times cause man, I'm here to tell you, it makes it so so sweet win they finally break through. Imagine the delight of everyone on this board when UT starts competing for championships again, it'll be bananas.

Very interesting. I'd imagine some will have a problem with this. You have two "other" teams, one of which is in the SEC and the other being Duke. I'm fine with it since you have a clearcut hierarchy and priorities. Some may disagree with me here, but i think your rooting interest borne out of hatred for UNC is a healthy thing.

Vols, Preds and StL Cardinals. End of story.

If you hate baseball, you are un-American.
If you hate hockey, you are missing out on simply the best live sporting event around. Especially playoff hockey.

I'm a Tennessee fan all the way in college sports. I support Virginia Tech a little, but only because my girlfriend is graduating from there and her family are all lifelong fans.

In pro sports, I have favorite players and cheer for them and their teams. I don't see pro teams the same way I do college teams. A college team represents an institution that's more than just sports- a pro team is just a franchise, a business.

I cheer for the Yankees, but only because I like what they've given to baseball over the years and some of my favorite players (Yogi Berra, Jorge Posada) were/are Yankees. I like the Braves because I grew up watching them (Chipper, Javy, Smoltz, Maddux, Glavine, etc.). My favorite baseball player of all time was an Oriole, Cal Ripken Jr.

I like the Red Wings in hockey, because that's who I saw on TV most often (along with the Capitals) when I was young. I don't particularly care about the NBA, so I tend to root for the underdogs, though I am a fan of Kobe Bryant.

And in the NFL, I like the Colts, for the obvious reason. The Packers are a team I enjoy watching, because a lot of my friends are fans, and I had some old Vince Lombardi on Football books when I was a kid.

Again, I prefer college sports over pro sports. College sports just feel right to me.

Not only is this quite possibly the worst post of the year, but it's been proven by many scientist and scholars that this is not physically possibly. If you really did grow up watching the Braves, and those players that you named, then there is no way in hell you can really like the yankees and the Braves.

I understand there is a big difference in "growing up watching" and actually pulling for a team though. TBS allowed EVERYBODY "grow up and watch" the Braves, so whether you liked them or not, if you had cable TV you saw the braves, so here's my anti-bandwagon/”Tennessee and…” rant.

1. Posts like this prove that there are definitely limits/rules to pulling for multiple teams or even "bandwagon" fans. It seems some people aren't smart enough to pull for multiple teams... I haven't read the whole thread but I'm pretty sure I won't see many "I like the Vols, but I pull for Bama when we're not playing them" or "I always liked the Cowboys, but dang I like the Eagles too!". Can't happen, shouldn't happen.

2. In my experiences, liking multiple teams leads to a ho-hum attitude towards the teams you "pull for". Pulling for just 1 team, good or bad, is like going all in every time they start a game, and you don't get that if you have that other team as a backup (or whatever you want to call it).

What this all boils down to is you can't like the Braves and the yankees chief....history says you have pick one or the other.

NCAA FB= VOLS, Both sides of My family are from Tennessee, finally got back to this great state in 2006 after the Army. So obviously I root for the Army Black Knights when possible.

NFL= Redskins, was born in D.C., Raised watching them, obviously not a bandwagon team!
Moved to Kokomo, Indiana when I was 7, Then came Peyton from UT so I had to root for the Colts as well. lived
there until i left for the Army.

Dont care about NBA, MLB, NHL, or NASCAR

Give me the VOLS and SKINS and Im happy! :twocents:

I like to think of LSU as one of the Vols biggest allies. So I always pull for the Bayou Bengals when they aren't playing the Vols.

I'm curious why you say that we're "allies" with LSU. Not accusing - I pull for them at times also, but just curious about that statement.
