Fan of UT in all sports. Memphis hoops was my first and remain my favorite sports team due to a relative playing there when i was a kid. Didn't have a favorite pro team until we got some in Tennessee. So i'm a Titan and Grizzlies fan. Other than that i just like watching sports those are the only teams that have my loyalty.

Tennessee fan in football and basketball. Roots.
Atlanta Braves fan in baseball. Roots.
Cincinnati Bengals fan in football. Due to fantasy football when I was 13. Had Palmer, CJ, and Houshmanzadeh... led me to a championship haha.

The only one I am not confident about is the Miami Heat. I am a Lebron James fan. I started watching NBA his rookie year, and I simply fell in love with the way he played the game. I was a Cavs fan up until a year ago, but now I am a Heat fan. If Lebron went to NY, I would've been a Knicks fan... is this OK?

I still don't see how people follow teams that they have no connections to. To each their own I guess.

If there's no team that you have any connection to, but you still want to watch a sport, you end up finding a connection with a team somehow. Until the mid-90s, Tennessee had no hockey or football team, so we had to find teams elsewhere to root for. In the former, my connection is "woo! Southern hockey!" In the latter, it's UT players moved on to the pros. We still don't have a basketball or baseball team, so we have to find connections there too (oh wait, is Memphis in Tennessee? never mind. I always forget about them). But once you find a connection, it's hard to give it up, which is why we all didn't switch over to the Titans and Preds immediately. I like the Titans and Preds, but they're not my #1 teams.

I am just a fan of the sport, when it comes to NCAAF, NCAAB, NFL, and the NBA... I used to kind of like Oregon football. That was until last year.

I have a LOT of teams that I passionately HATE:
Bama, Florida, UGA, Kentucky, ND, Ohio St, USC, Texas, Memphis, NY Yankees, LA Lakers, Celtics...

Players too:
Joakim Noah. Kobe.

Haha "I once went and watched Wedding Crashers. I thought I was watching When Bears Attack... I assumed it wasn't the right movie, halfway through, but that's the thing about bear attacks, they happen when you least expect them." - Dwight Schrute.

Love The Office.

I cheer against all Los Angeles area teams on general principle. Maybe not the Clippers. But you get the idea.

I think a more prudent quote was last week's one about the NBA and WNBA

I have an Aunt who's an Alabama football fan, a Kentucky basketball fan, and a Lady Vols fan. She also claims that Coach Cal is a saint.

She at least has ties to all three areas, but still.

I just hate all the tools that act like they know things about their bandwagon team when they clearly don't. I've just stopped arguing with them.

I am a Vols fan in all sports first and foremost. However, I don't see anything wrong with supporting other teams that you are somehow connected to. My best friend is from the town the Penn State is in, so I find myself cheering for them when I watch them play. I don't see anything wrong with that, unless of course they were playing TN.

I hear you. I was a major hockey fan when I was young and loved the avalanche. I used to go to Nashville Knight games, and switched all loyalties when the Preds came here. I remember being young and dumb, and drinking beer in the arena when it was being built. Liking teams when u are a kid growing up for sure leaves an impression on you when you are older.

Excellent point about knowing heartbreak. I agree this is one of the key elements to being a fan.

Your BIL is definitely the guy I am talking about. This discussion is to help us define parameters so we can educate people like that, thereby making the world a much, much better place.

Volnation. Making the world a better place, one thread at a time!:loco:

( Not going to lie I have always admired Florida State. . ONLY because they are not in the SEC and we share a common enemy in Florida.

I have the unfortunate task of working with an extremely obnoxious person who is from Hampton, VA(ACC Country). His favorite teams are as follows; College basketball ( Duke), College football (VA tech) o.k. Imo, NFL (Redskins) also o.k., Pro basketball (Lakers), and Pro baseball (Yankees). If he changed college football to Notre Dame, and pro football to Dallas, we would have the steriotypical front runner fan. I can see this happening within two years, and despise fans like this.

My teams are:

college: Tenn
NFL: Pittsburgh
NBA: 76ers
NHL: Flyers
MLB: Dodgers

I have two semi other faves i cheer for in the Predators and Grizzlies when they came to Tenn but just cant bring myself to cheer for the old Houston Oilers.

There are several teams I hate though.
