Tennessee and UAB to play in 2025

Not if Syracuse or UAB is the best OOC opponent. If we want to compete nationally we should play a national schedule. We used to, even in down years. It didn't kill the program and it gave the fans some good football.
There was been a “cupcake” scheduled every year. Memphis, Louisville, Rutgers, Cincinnati used to be “that” game when they were independent. ‘98 they played UAB. Look back at the schedule history………

Any SEC schedule allows an SEC team to compete “nationally”. Tennessee has to play Bama, Georgia and Florida every year which automatically makes it a tough schedule. Then as our periodic draw from the West, we can get LSU, Auburn or TX A&M thrown in. And Ole Miss, MSState and KY are no picnic either at times. Just stop with this national schedule 💩 or playing a tough non-conference schedule. SEC teams don’t need to. They can play one decent non-conference team a year and that’s plenty good enough. Just ask the playoff committee. How was the representation from the ACC, Big 12 and PAC 12? Seems to me like they are the ones that better be beefing up their non-conference schedules to make a better impression.

Yes we've always had cupcakes. And we've had quality OOC opponents too, e.g. Oregon, UCLA, Cal. Again, UAB has at least a small chance of winning, in which case we lose more than a game. And if we beat them, who really cares? If we lose to UCLA or USC it's not the end of the world given where we are now. If we beat either then it's very good for the program.

And we still have quality OOC opponents

Pretty sure we played Syracuse in 98 and 2001. We’re also probably going to be playing 10 conference games by 2025.

Don’t be dumb. An ACC school is a fine OOC opponent. Same as we have ever since the SEC expanded in 1990. 1 P5 Opponent, 1-2 lower P5/G5 opponents. The only change from then is a FCS team added as an extra game
