Tennessee Amendment 1

I think you & gays (could be the same) somehow think that you all have an inflated sense of importance. Religious or not there has to be some sort of values & standards that affect public policy. Are you dumb enough to think everyone will be happy no matter what you do?

Did you just try to insult another poster by implying he may be gay?

I'll let you explain yourself before making firm accusations.

Someone rlse may have already said this but, if a woman has a right to choose what to do with her body, why doesn't the person she's is having killed? What about their right to choose?

Many believe that's not a person. The truth of the matter is that abortion is just a symptom or expression of our throw away, take no responsibility society.

The women's rights angle is screwy in more ways than one. That "right" can weigh heavily on the woud-be father when the women scurries off and has it taken care of without any discussion. Happens all the time.

Still think it should be a legal option, but I personally wouldn't consent to an abortion.

1857 Dred Scott vs Sandford. The U.S. legalized slavery nationwide.

1973 Roe vs Wade/Doe vs Bolton. The U.S. Supreme Court legalized abortion nationwide.

I include this information only for those who are still in 5th grade, and have not yet gotten to the history portion of the curriculum.

You are merely leaning on the weak crutch of the red herring fallacy:

The act of abortion is personal and episodic, whereas slavery was systematic and institutionalized. Another difference: the outlawing of slavery eventually ended that practice [in the United States], while even leaders of the Religious Right concede that making abortion illegal will not stop abortion itself. --- Balmer.

Personally I'm not gonna lose sleep either way as far as the marriage issue goes. Government should just get out of it altogether. Are they gonna pander to the single person next though? As for rights I guess forcing the issue on people who's beliefs it violates would be one. Preach tolerance but don't practice it. Why does a gay couple take offense to a Christian baker not baking them a cake or someone not printing them gay pride T shirts? Kinda hypocritical huh? Why do atheist groups take offense to people praying at public venues? Are they forced to participate?...

In your example the Christian baker is running a business of public accommodation (e.g.: restaurant, food, hotels, transportation) that may not discriminate on the basis of religion and other considerations under the federal Civil Rights Act.

Really? Is there another group of people that are so vehemently opposed that cite a reason other that that of religion?

Yeah, people like me who are not particularly religious but value life.

A women has a right to choose what happens to her body as far as I'm concerned. If you make abortion illegal or extremely difficult, women that don't want babies will find other ways to abort the fetus ('back alley' abortions are horrid as we all know) or there will be many many people having unwanted babies that become a burden to the state and have a miserable existence.

Right , a certain party claims concern for the unborn, not so much for the born.

Some Tennesseans have confused legal abortion with cannibalism --- they are probably hoping that you won't notice.

VOTE NO NO NO ON AMENDMENT #1! Women are not second-class citizens and are fully capable of deciding for themselves something that is their business and their business alone WITHOUT interference from either the state, local, or Federal Government! Anybody who believes that if abortions are made illegal that there won't any more abortions are living in a fantasy world! The idea that "although there are unwanted pregnancies, there are no unwanted children" is a crock of horse manure. Prisons are loaded with adults, who started out as unwanted children.
