Tennessee AD Phil Fulmer Quietly Received Contract Extension in May (Article)

Retention bonus increase from 100k to 150k per year. So we pay him that much just to "keep him." Thank goodness... I'm sure other universities are clamoring for his talents.

As if some other school would come along and try to hire Fulmer as their AD.

I'd tap the brake just a little on that. I'm not saying other schools are clamoring for his services, but I don't see where he's doing a bad job, either. Men's BB is on fire, women's BB is looking pretty good, Vitello is really bringing baseball along, men's and women's tennis, golf and swimming are pretty good. Soccer just won the SECE regular season. The extension was completed in May--before Pruitt's dive--and he's had to work in some pretty unprecedented circumstances. On top of all that, no base pay increase--only performance bonuses. They should all be paid that way.

I WANT TO believe that Fulmer knows what he's doing. He got rid of his friend Holly and I think Kellie was a good hire (jury still out). Rick Barnes was given an extension. He's changed coaches in other sports too that seem to be an upgrade...........the fact that he let Holly go gives me hope that he is going to do the best thing for Tennessee. I dont think he and Pruitt have that close of a relationship and there's no denying he loves Tennessee football..............will he do the right thing and cut his losses and go after a PROVEN head coach?..........that's where I'm conflicted.

I deny that he loves Tennessee football. Just as much evidence against it as there is for it.

No offense to Fulmer, but he does not deserve an ounce of credit for Barnes or Vitello. He didn't hire either one of them. He is just riding their success. The only major sport coach Fulmer has hired is Pruitt and that is who he should be judged upon.

How many other schools give their AD and unnecessary extension after they unnecessarily extended a losing football coach who was only 2 years into a 6 year contract?
When I see your avatar and read almost all of your posts on this site, I imagine that expression is your daily look. I sure wouldn't want to meet you in a dark alley..

To me when you get to where this program is now it is no longer about relationships, but results.

I keep asking the same question over and over. What is UT going to do about their on-going crap show and how are they going to fix it? I see no evidence that anyone over there has a plan and they are going to be the laughing stock of college football next year trying to sell tickets. If Fulmer has a clue as to what he is doing then he needs to start showing it. Otherwise, find someone who can do the job.

I am done with their mediocrity.

I would be more apt to judge him on the state of the athletic department in general. I assume there's more to running it than hiring and firing.
