Good to know that stuffing a team on the goal line is nowadays just considered surviving by the skin of one's teeth now; I'll be sure to let people know that the next time that our defense stops someone who comes into Neyland on 4th and short to win a game, it's really just that we got lucky.
Help me understand where I used the word luck? Mizzou survived, granted they won on their own merits, but A&M is no powerhouse working with their 2nd string freshman QB these days.

38-17 Tennessee... we get off to an early start, forcing Mizzou to play catch up,and we let the pass rush of Barnett and Maggitt loose, forcing a few mistakes by Mauk...

"Skin of one's teeth" is generally a phrase that suggests more of escape, almost with some implication of luck that they avoided the worse outcome (almost in a sense of implying a bullet was dodged rather than something actively done). Maybe I misunderstood the way you were trying to use it here, though.

But I have always viewed stuffing a team on 4th and 1 or a goal line stand to seal a victory as being more actively a result of the defense's actions (I'd see it differently if it had been because of something like a fumbled/bobbled snap).

Also, wait, didn't he throw for like 4 TDs against Auburn the week before? (I'm not implying him to be a superstar; seems he's playing a bit better than Kenny Hill was the latter reached conference play, though.)
