Who is UTSA you ask they are a mid-major school that moved up in competition this year coming from the Sun Belt to the AAC same conference that has Cincinnati by the way a playoff team last year, SMU, Houston, Memphis and so on. Pruitt most likely scheduled them are schedules done years in advance by coaches blame it on him.
UTSA is a mid major program on the rise

UTSA was ranked for several weeks last year- as high as #15 in the AP poll, and #20 in the Coaches poll. They won Conference USA. They beat Southern Miss, UAB and Illinois and lost their bowl game to San Diego St. to finish 12-2.
This year, UTSA lost in triple OT to Houston, lost the lead to Texas in the 2nd half when Texas wore them down, and beat Army.
They are one of the better Group of 5 conference programs now. Not Cincinnati 2021 good, but not to be overlooked.
Yes. Thanks for the background. I stand corrected as they seem like a legit team to say the least. Their acronym should be UTXSA. 😀🍊👍👊

That is, without a doubt, the softest out of conference schedule I've seen for Tennessee since I don't know when. For real this is the non-conference slate? For real?

Virginia, Austin Peay, UTSA, and UConn? Either we wanted something easy to change if the Texas/Oklahoma thing happens, or we just _reaaaally_ didn't want any tough games outside the usual suspects that year.

I have no problem with it

When they go to nine or even ten conference games you will be happy to see that so called mid-major cupcake twice a year. Because of the exspansion of college football playoffs your in- conference results will matter a hell of a lot more than out of conference, so just enjoy the so called cupcakes for now.
Looking forward to no more than 1 or 2 cupcakes per year. One buy game should be reserved for homecoming. I’d prefer the rest to be Power 5 teams.

Better business would be supporting Knoxville businesses by having the game at Neyland. Millions in lost revenue for greater Knoxville…

That game isn’t replacing a UT home game. It’s replacing a road game at BYU. So you’re keeping the revenue instate AND making it a far more accessible game for many UT fans who can’t make it to Knoxville.

It’s not the University of Knoxville. It’s the University of Tennessee. It’s funded by tax dollars from all over the state. No city contributes more up the state tax coffers than Nashville, so arguably, no city funds UT more. It certainly sends more top talent to UT, while the top talent Knoxville produces chooses Clemson and Notre Dame.

I understand your point about playing games on campus, but I’m really over the attitude by some East Tennesseeans that UT represents and is supported by them alone.

This is exactly the type of game I’m talking about being stupid to schedule. They’re more likely to beat Tennessee than Virginia, but beating Virginia “looks” better because they’re power 5.

I’d rather see somebody like Arizona State or Georgia Tech or Maryland here.

I'd rather see Southern Miss,Tulane or Coastal Carolina if Tennessee is going that route

I agree with your points about state funding for a state University. My point has nothing to do with Nashville. To your point, this should be a road game in Provo which would have been a tremendous venue. (I have lived in Nashville and Knoxville and like them both for entirely different reasons.) My point was solely regarding off campus / neutral site games. I personally despise them and feel that regular season college games should be played on college campuses.

Playing in soulless NFL stadiums should be reserved for Bowls or exhibitions IMHO. Your points are well taken. Knoxville talent will be more likely staying home now that competent Coaches are on staff and actually believe in actively recruiting local talent.

As a Titans fan, I admit...Nissan is as soulless as they come.

Very doable schedule. Only down side is road games at Bama and UF. Looks like I'll be able to attend at least the Virginia game in Nashville and at UK
Yeah i think a 10-2 season with a 6-2 finish in the SEC winding up in the Top 10 is very possible with this schedule

Ha. I was there in the beginning The company I worked for had season tix from the beginning and the season prior when they played at Vandy. I attended most of the games at Adelphia. The Music City Miracle vs Buffalo was unreal.

May have been mentioned, but not a very inspiring home schedule for season ticket holders. I'm sure they will cut the price of season tickets since the only big game is GA. And, they will cut concession prices in half as well.

UTSA loses their all everything QB Frank Harris this year and also two very skilled receivers in Cephus and Zakhari Franklin and are a very senior heavy team this year. They will be a shell of their team next year. Same for Virginia and Brennan Armstrong. Also, another angle is us playing Tony Elliott. He reportedly was strongly considering us and then turned us down after being persuaded not to take the job. Of course that worked out in our favor.

Tennessee definitely was on the winning side of that

Not a great OOC slate but given we play in the SEC it's expected. Virginia is ok but should be a W. UTSA is actually probably the best of the 4.

I actually like the OOC schedule. Only 2 scrubs and UTSA actually makes a little noise. I like other P5 conference foes that are not powerhouses. UVA is a good one, but still will make a popular game. Even UConn is interesting.

We play enough top 10.types in our own conference. Having 2 ooc that were favored but could lose are good in my book.

As someone who grew up and worked most of my career in Virginia - this will be so satisfying to beat that team - perhaps slightly less satisfying than beating VA Tech, but it will be sweet. Can't freakin' wait.

Tennessee’s 2023 football schedule:

9/2: vs. Virginia (Nashville)
9/9: vs. Austin Peay
9/16: at Florida
9/23: vs. UTSA
9/30: vs. South Carolina
10/7: BYE WEEK
10/14: vs. A&M
10/21: @ Alabama
10/28: @ Kentucky
11/4: vs. UCONN
11/11: @ Mizzou
11/18: vs. UGA
11/25: vs. Vandy

Just revealed on SEC Network. Thoughts? And screw Florida.
Would be nice to be 5-0 before our bye week, I like how our "big" games are spread out a bit more
