Tennessee +10 vs WVU

Well, if your team ain't the same as last year, remember it ain't ours either. Some talk about our VT game, and that's fine, but it was WG's first game in awhile. The timing will be there now, so let's just sit back and enjoy the experience. Holgorsen will have the offense moving at light speed, so your defense will have fun the first half! Our defense will probably be wanting your QB (whoever that is) to win the game in the air, so we'll just load the box to stop the run. Your offense won't be as multi-facted to think about as a good B12 team and that's when our D shines. You can talk about our D all you want, but they face real QB's who can run/throw. It's harder to pick your poison agin real offenses and QB's which can make a D less efficient. But since your O will be primarily one-dimensional to the run, they'll have to figure who to block on the 3-3-5 scheme, because they won't know who's coming from where. This is gonna be fun. Your D in the 1st half won't know which way is up.

I am hoping for the best but afraid of the worst in this game. I think if we manage to win it will be a close, low scoring affair. If anybody gets boat race I am afraid we are on the wrong side of the score. Before Grier got hurt last year WV was hitting on all cylinders. If they come out of the gate like that it could be a long day.

Best case scenario is the whole WVU squad gets HFMD and Grier gets busted again.

This game sounds like the build up to the 85 Sugar Bowl. We were supposed to stand no chance. I'm hoping for a similar outcome.

Well, we've beaten better teams than WVU when we weren't supposed to, so maybe this games winnable. Maybe hiring Phil as AD will unhex us. Maybe a return to the pro style offense and getting back to running the ball down some throats will help wash away the bad taste of Butch's nonsensical system. Maybe WVU awakens a sleeping giant and UT returns to some semblance of its former glory. Its been a lot of preseasons of hoping this is the year, but stranger things have happened. Here's to hoping

I was just investigating the current lines for the opening week of college football, and was somewhat surprised that the line has moved from TN +7 to + 10 on most sites. The over/under has moved down I believe to around 59.5 to 61. I assume this is due to major money being placed on WV and not because of injuries, practice reports, etc. Anyway, I found it somewhat interesting and feel fairly confident in the team showing up and keeping it closer than the experts think.
Other point spreads that jumped out at me were App St at Penn St +24, Vandy -4 vs MTSU, Cal -8 vs NC (NC's has many key players suspended), and LSU +3 vs Miami.
If Wv wins by 10 or more points they are a top 15 team or they score with a minute left in the game when they are up 3.

When your vaunted D did in fact face these "real QB's," your team lost. Let's not forget that of WVU's 7 wins last year, only 2 of those teams finished with a winning record. So WVU beat the bad teams and lost to decent teams... color me unimpressed.

You might want to pump the brakes a little bit

Shouldn't shock anyone UT coming off its worst record in school history. WV has a high powered O and we had a horrible D. I get that its a new year although its hard to say that UT is going to make those great strides we want to see happen. Not to mention we have not had a QB separate themselves either.

Iโ€™m no gambling expert but that line just makes me think Vegas is taking advantage of the average person who only remembers that Tennessee was terrible in 2017. Itโ€™s definitely a strong enough memory that people will gravitate to taking WV -10 which is a lot to cover. Or maybe Vegas knows something we donโ€™t about WV.

Outside of TN most everyone sees this line as rational.

I never said our D shined agin the real QB's......when you play against the likes of Mayfield, Hill, Rudolph, Mahones, it adds an extra element to the game. Your QB won't be one of these guys to plan for.

Wo, Wo , Wo! Hold on there mighty Fowler! "One dimensional to the run?" Where's the solid intel that they can actually run the ball?

I think all u guys are gonna be pleasantly surprised to find out just how bad the coaching was with Butch. Our Vols have talent. When its actually coached well...we will all see how good we can....and WILL be.

There's nothing as intense and emotionally involving as college football. And nothing more demoralizing than losing in it. I must have replayed that final play of Ga Tech game a hundred times. If not more. But the Florida loss was excruciating. If Kelly doesn't drop that easy TD.....damn him. Anyway....get ready to see the Vols make a statement vs WVU.

Amen!

But it also sounds like the buildup to the 08, 09, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, & 18 Alabama games. So gambling on UT lost 9 of 11 of those. Fans and team lost 11 of 11. Just keeping things in perspective.
So we have already lost the '18 game?

My bad, UTjr should be favored.
9-25-2 your all time against UT. The best coach in the history of USC lost to the worst coach in the history of UT.

Crow while you can. Muschamp is about out of Spurrier players. We've seen what happened at UF when he had to win with his own.
