Tennesseans: Fools of the Day

I can't speak for everyone, but that definitely wasn't the case with me. You don't come off of the worst season in Tennessee history and hire anyone remotely close to anything having to do with Jerry Sandusky. The fact that this is even a thing speaks volumes about the leadership we currently have at UT.

Agreed. I'll add if the Sandusky thing isn't big deal, why was literally no other program considering him. Anywhere! Why are we the only program on the on the hook for having to clear up Schiano's reputation?

Simple. Because they have A.D.'s who have the good sense not to put their program in the position where you are damned if you do damned if you don't for making Greg Schiano a candidate to hire.

ESPN, Esiason, and the other Schiano apologists are reading us the riot act for refusing to hire a guy wasn't wanted by anyone over exactly what the fans protested! Its staggeringly dishonest of Boomer and Herbstreit to suggest we have to do what no other program would even entertain.

Ucla gets Kelly. Florida gets Mullen. Texas A&M getting Jimbo Fisher. Our clueless AD gets Schiano. If that makes us fools for not wanting or accepting him then so be it. This fan base is tired of the seemingly intentional sabotage of the football program. Enough is enough. We weren't going to let it happen again.

Well looks like it's the fans' turn again to sabotage, which we've done in epic fashion

I can say this, if we don't get a good quality hire, many fans will quit spending their money. Not to mention Memphis and MTSU are doing much better than the Vols currently. I am sure there are others like myself that went to MTSU and UTK and would send their money to wherever they may have graduated from or received their masters from. I know I will if this type of negligence continues. Why send money to a program that already has tons of money and can't figure out what to do with it?

How can you sabotage an already terrible decision? You get a guy who may have been involved in the Sandusky scandal. If he wasn't, his up side is a .500 record in the Big East. How is that on the fans, none of whom wanted him for either reason.

Not wanting to sit through 3+ years of defending a head coach from Sandusky scandal allegations while watching .500 or worse football is not an act of sabotage. Not by the fans any way.

You're only looking at the surface if you're complaining about his .500 record or his association with Sandusky. Utterly embarrassing. Tn fans just messed up bigtime

Absolutely cringeworthy. Embarrassed to be a volunteer today

The fans spoke out yesterday about a guy with a questionable back ground from his ties at Penn State. The VFL spoke out about his character too not only from college but pro football too and they knew he wasn't the right person. There was nobody I saw or read that even mentioned his lack luster head coaching record which is out there for all to see and cannot be denied. If you have an issue with any of that then it's your problem and not the fan bases.

I'm embarrassed also.

It'll take 20 years to get over the negative publicity this will generate.

I'm 76 and had hoped see one more competitive team but this ends that hope.

Seems to me you’re part of the problem then.. if you support this hire..

I supose other coaches wouldn’t use recruiting tactics against him, also I see he was so such a sought after coach

You want to explain to me 1) how the media could set UT up and 2) why the media would set UT up. You Vols watch way too many soap operas. You're becoming one.

You worry about Auburn beating the hell out of you again this weekend and we will worry about the Vols.

What about leaking drug tests, the seething reviews by media, scouts, and players, the attempted injuring of opposing qbs at the end of games, or the MRSA cover up? Do we just pretend all the well documented personality issues that sound exactly like Butch Jones don't exist as well?

Cringeworthy is hiring a man who witnesses a child rape and does nothing about it.

McQueary testified under oath regarding what he was told about Schiano.

Where is Schiano's sworn statement refuting McQueary's remarks?

Where is the defamation lawsuit against McQueary?

I'm embarrassed my alma mater is run by clueless idiots who consistently fail to properly vet the people they hire.

I am sorry, but can ya'll not read? McQueary testified that someone told him that Shiano had told a third party years before that he had seen something, which Schiano denies ever saying. Jesus I hope you are never on a jury.

I don't want Schiano either but making libelous statements based on virtually nothing is not a good look for our fan base.

Schiano was a hot coach in 2010-2011...

This guy has been coaching high school since the Bucs fired him after two seasons.

Not only was Schiano fired, the GM who hired him was fired in Tampa and has never been rehired in football despite some pretty stellar draft picks.

Don't know about the PSU stuff but not a good football coach hire in my opinion. Also, got to be careful of living in a glass stadium--Title IX, payout, et al!!!! Hmmm!

How am I only looking at the surface?

What do you think the media and the competition says if we have another Sexual Assault allegation against a player and Schiano is our coach? Its not a hypothetical of low likelihood. We have one every 4 - 5 years historically. We have one we are still going through TODAY. You think McQueary's testimony gets trotted out with context on July 16th, 2018 when A.J. Johnson goes to trial? You think we look good to a Title 9 investigator with our history and his history as our head coach?

I've yet to hear any of the people complaining about those opposed to the hire explain how that is a non-issue. Sure, the media thinks we did an innocent man wrong today. Hire him and have a problem - any problem - and you'll really see long knives come out for us. This is nothing.

The moral outrage is absurd. 98% of the people on here had no idea he was even on the staff at Penn State when all of this went down. Hell, he was only 25 and just starting his coaching career. He may not be the right fit for us but let's be honest here. It has nothing to do with the fact that he was on that staff and everything to do with the fact that this fan base didn't get the coach everyone is enamored with and latched on to the very first negative thing that could be found to voice their outrage.
No

I don't expect to get Gruden and I don't want Schiano. Who cares why?

If the AD listens to snot-nosed kids at UT who want to see a coach that THEY can identify with (like Kiffin, Dooley or Jones), then the young fans will get what they wish for .... again. (ugh)

9.38 -- Average number of wins this season for the 13 oldest coaches at the BCS level.

7.4 -- Average number of wins this season for the 32 coaches in the 40-to-49-year-old age group.

7.05 -- Average number of wins this season for the 21 coaches in the 50-to-57-year-old age bracket.

4.66 – Average number of wins this season for the six coaches under age 40 in a BCS conference.

When you look at the numbers, experience AND maturity rule. Coach Mark McHale would be an EXCELLENT fit for UT, not because nobody has heard of him, but because everyone who knows McHale AND knows football, likes him and respects him. UT needed to hire McHale when they hired the last three coaches, instead ... and they need to hire him now, more than ever.
