Tennesseans: Fools of the Day

Do complete research. Never hang your hat on one article or source of info.

Ask yourself this: If McQuery made it up, why wouldn't Schiano do all he could to protect his name? Sworn statement? Litigation? Interviews?

Or just a denial.

I'm still digging, but what I have found so far in no way convinces me that...at the very least...Schiano didn't know, or at least suspect, what was happening in the PSU facilities. He's not alone.

If he was "just getting started" in coaching, this was no way to start.

Vol Nation was right to raise hell about this.

I really don't care that he's not here. But the idea of all of this moral outrage is absurd. 98% of the people on here had no idea he was even on the staff at Penn State at the time. And if you were being honest you didn't either. Now if and when you think you are man enough to make me go away just let me know and I will gladly give you the chance to do so.

As were most posters on this board, I read the articles only after his name popped up in the last ten days. It was discussed ad nauseum.

If it's morally acceptable to you, then that's your choice. I have seen first hand what this does to kids, Mr. Internet Tough Guy.

I'm embarrassed also.

It'll take 20 years to get over the negative publicity this will generate.

I'm 76 and had hoped see one more competitive team but this ends that hope.

Paterno was about your age when the PSU scandal went down. Not sure he believed the truth either.

Maybe he didn't have a guilty conscience and didn't foresee an ignorant mob publicly hanging him

Absolutely cringeworthy. Embarrassed to be a volunteer today

NO the joke is on Greg the Douche & Currie. Tennesseans stood up, let their voices be heard, and actually made a difference.

We didn't want this Jack Nutz and now he isn't coming......HE looks like the fool.

Cringeworthy is hiring a man who witnesses a child rape and does nothing about it.

McQueary testified under oath regarding what he was told about Schiano.

Where is Schiano's sworn statement refuting McQueary's remarks?

Where is the defamation lawsuit against McQueary?

I'm embarrassed my alma mater is run by clueless idiots who consistently fail to properly vet the people they hire.

Where is the like button for this?

And maybe he didn't want an in-depth investigation into what he did or didn't know. One thing is for sure: after what just transpired, it's going to get another look.

McQueary’s deposition stated that the Bradley conversation was more than just a “rumor of a rumor”. It specifically stated that Schiano walked into Bradley’s office “white as a ghost” stating he just saw JS’s inappropriate behavior. Not saying it is 100% true, but it is much more specific than this article will lead you to believe. PSU story aside, this wasn’t a good fit and the way this entire saga has been handled...not a ton of confidence.

It's time to change the subject IMHO. The 1971 T. C. Williams Titans were NOT "the first VA State AAA Football Champions" as portrayed by the movie REMEMBER THE TITANS. The 1st VA State AAA Champions were the James Wood Colonels in 1970 (before that there was no VA State AAA Championship Game). Coach Mark McHale was the Co-Captain of the 1968 James Wood Colonels ... and one bada$$ Right Tackle !!! Mark could also be UTK's next head football coach, if people started talking about him ... instead of talking about all of the other "silly season" distractions on this forum (IMHO).

It was implied by TN AD that the next hire would be above reproach and bring TN back to relevance, i.e a winner.

GS was NOT above reproach evidently, true or not, there was an accusation under oath and he showed no signs to attempting to clear his name (long before TN was involved).

He BARELY has a winning record as a HC and that wasnt even in the SEC

TN is tired of the suits making underwhelming decisions costing millions of dollars that take years to overcome. Evidenty GS knew of the testimony against him and expected it to disappear, foolish assumption by him. If he knew anything about the recent coaching carousel in TN, he should have expected fallout.

My gut feeling is Tennessee fans are going to be trashed this week in the sports world.

Bad situation all around.

It's not just the Penn State crap, though that should be enough. This is a mediocre coach who leaked drug test results while feuding with his QB, ran a locker room in which MRSA flourished, was accused of rigging a team captains vote by his own players, and is generally despised by everyone that has ever worked for him. NFL scouts hated coming to Rutgers because he was so hard to work with. There are way too many ethical red flags to justify the risk, even for a guy who by all accounts is a defensive genius.

You can blame the fanbase all you want, this was more stopped by the boosters not named Haslam and people in the AD not named Currie. As far as blaming the fanbase, who are you to tell the fanbase they have to be happy about a crappy coach and questionable human being?

Yes, I'm embarrassed - Not for the people who are loyal VFL fans. Embarrassed that we have incompetent administration that didn't see this coming and would allow this to happen. Hopefully they are exposed.

Rumors are that we owe $20m to Schiano. I can't quite get my head around that - but it's more than twice Butch's buyout. If that is the case, not only Currie's head should roll, but on up the tree.

20mil ?-- rumor ?-- can you wire me some cash so I can verify this rumor?

You use your very VolNation name (TienesayFayan) to mock the Tennessee accent (is that how "Tennessee fan" sounds when you say it? If not, who are you making fun of?), and then ask us to care about your feelings?

Sorry, not buying. Be embarrassed somewhere you belong.

It is likely the media set VN up for this mess. Schiano said he was clueless. Currie hasn't said squat and he told us not to believe anything till he did. Gruden silent. Lots of fake news or "insider" talk with no links or sources. I hope this unsocial media didn't scare off a really great coach.

You want to explain to me 1) how the media could set UT up and 2) why the media would set UT up. You Vols watch way too many soap operas. You're becoming one.

The moral outrage is absurd. 98% of the people on here had no idea he was even on the staff at Penn State when all of this went down. Hell, he was only 25 and just starting his coaching career. He may not be the right fit for us but let's be honest here. It has nothing to do with the fact that he was on that staff and everything to do with the fact that this fan base didn't get the coach everyone is enamored with and latched on to the very first negative thing that could be found to voice their outrage.
I can't speak for everyone, but that definitely wasn't the case with me. You don't come off of the worst season in Tennessee history and hire anyone remotely close to anything having to do with Jerry Sandusky. The fact that this is even a thing speaks volumes about the leadership we currently have at UT.
