Tenn vs VA Tech in the Chick-fil-a Bowl (merged)

Basically, we need Clemson to win!!!

This is stupid, I'm not cheering for Clemson so we can get a better bowl. We should get it no matter what happens in the ACC championship.

Someone answer me this: ESPN reported that Florida State wants a bowl in Fla for Bowden's last game. The Gator Bowl would like to take them, but it is being reported, that the gator bowl must check with the ACC commissionor for clearance on the selection since the seminoles have more ACC losses than some other available teams.

So did the Outback bowl check with Mike Slive?? And that means, Slive approved the Auburn selection? If so, the can of worms is about to be opened.

I love it how people on here are fussing about how the Chic-fil-a bowl is going to be a much better bowl that the Outback and how the game with Virginia Tech is a much better match up for the program.

Those people are completely oblivous to the fact that their fat fannies are going to be sitting in a pretegious cold outdoor stadium in Nashville come the holidays. Yes, we were cheated by Auburn and the SEC. And no, Mike Hamilton is not doing his job of selling this university and our football program. The Chicken Bowl wants UGA if they can make it happen.

The Chicken bowl really is on a par with the Outback and Cotton bowls nowadays. They're all decent, mid-level bowls. It's once you fall below Atlanta that the games really turn crappy. Not much difference between Chicken and Outback, but a big difference between Chicken and Music City.

And color me skeptical that you know enough about the backdoor negotiations that go on during the bowl selection process to be able to accuse Hamilton of "not doing his job." You're talking through your hat.

My hat says that Mike Hamilton has been here before and we all know how that turned out.

He's been selling a crappy product the entire time he's been AD. We've been a boring, mediocre football team for a decade, and we've earned a reputation for not traveling well. That's a hard sell to bowls.

When I was a kid, Tennessee had a reputation of traveling better than just about everybody in college football, and it got us better bowl bids. Now we have a reputation of traveling poorly, and so we get worse bowl bids. It's not going to change until we start traveling well again. That's most of it. Not sure how Hamilton is supposed to magically make that problem go away.

I was thinking the exact same thing!

Fire the guy that got us to the point where bowls were nothing more than potential dissapointments and get an exciting young coach that will bring the fire back.

Check.

The ACC has the same rule as the SEC, which is that a Bowl can take a team with 1 more in conference loss than that of any other available team. FSU has two more in-conference losses than Clemson and Va Tech, three more than GaTech, therefore the ACC commissioner and all affected teams must agree to FSU leap leapfrogging any of those teams to get into the Gator Bowl. The ACCCG winner will go to a BCS Bowl and VaTech seems headed for the Peach/Chick so FSU will only need one team and the ACC commissioner to agree and I doubt that anyone wants to go down in history as the person who screwed Bobby Bowden out of his last shred of dignity as FSU head coach by blocking him from playing his last bowl game in-state.

The SEC situation is different because all of the 7-5 teams are eitehr 4-4 or 3-5 in conference, which means that the bowls can take whom ever they want from that group. Once the Cotton picked Ole Miss, the Outback could choose any 7-5 team in the conference.

TN was getting seriously hard to watch in a bowl game. Not just losing but being completely blown out of the stadium (in numerous bowls). Now that will put a damper on the travel plans.

My friend text me and said that espn scrolled on their little bottom line that UT to the chick fil a bowl was official. Anybody else see this?

they reported that the tennessean was reporting that it was official...take it for what it's worth.

What I don't understand is this: How come if Clemson loses to Georgia Tech, then Clemson goes to the Peach instead of Va Tech AND (the part I don't get) Georgia is Clemson's opponent??? I can see how Clemson would go over Va Tech in that scenario, but why on Earth would that create a change in the SEC representative? Basicly, why wouldn't we play Clemson?

I guess b/c CJ Spiller could play his own state, and UT and Clemson have played in the peach bowl b4. Who the heck knows with these bowl dudes?

If Clemson loses, we will not be playing in Atlanta.
That is not set in stone. If Clemson loses they could be playing UGA. It is not a definite that they will. The Chick-Fil-A bowl committee would have to discuss their decision again.

It doesn't mean that there is no way that UT and VT would play if Clemson lost.

UT should get the CF bowl over UGA. UT blew them out. Ga should be forced to go to the weedeater bowl in Shreveport!

Hey Vols. Just read someone's post that if Clemson loses, we might both get the shaft... any validity to that statement? I really don't see the benefit to the Peach bowl of having a 8-5 Clemson v a 7-5 UGA team. With the Gator going FSU's way, I don't even want to think about where we might end up if this game doesn't go through.

Don't worry Mich. We can't go past the chicken bowl. The loser of the CG would be coming of two straight losses. Clemson wouldn't be unranked and GT wouldn't fill up any hotels, not to mention they were just there last year.

I really don't think it would happen but there is a slight chance it could happen. Myabe 5-10%

Thanks for the kind words, and don't let these Vols forget that we were leading you guys mid way through the 4th quarter. Too bad our D was one the field the entire game because the offense couldn't get a drive going. (I am still bitter about that one drive where we had 3 first downs and the refs didn't give us any of them. Key moment in the game too)

Thats what alabama does...they pound and pound and when the fourth quater comes, the opposition has no chance. And wonder why your defense was on the field so much, I think that means you were being dominated. I always hate the excuse that our defense was on the field too much, its just a nicer way of stating we are not the better team. Bama had almost 400 more yards than you guys.
