Tenn vs VA Tech in the Chick-fil-a Bowl (merged)

For those disappointed in us not making a New Year's Day bowl...did you really want to get up for an 11 a.m. game? Anyway, ATL isn't a bad place to spend New Year's!

That miserable passer has been in the top 10 in passing efficiency for the majority of the year. Tyrod is a tough match up for anyone.

Looking forward to the game. You can find me at the Cheetah on Wed.

tyrod folds everytime he plays a decent team, which va tech does about once a year. when is the last time your joke of a football team beat an sec team?

Most of the country would not be watching the 11am NYD bowl game. For UT this game is much better for a new regime and national exposure. A primetime game vs a sexier opponent and it being the only game in town...no brainer.

Plus 2 great fanbases that have been wanting to play for sometime.

How does Auburn keep hosing us like they do? First it was Tuberville & company camping out in Cadillac's living room and basically refusing to leave until he reneged on UT and signed with Auburn.... Same thing w/ Ronnie Brown.... Then they get lucky enough to have us on the home & home sked at our lowest point in twenty years... Now this. I hope CLK is still around next time we have the Barn on the rotation.... It would be even better to get 'em in the SEC championship game.... We have a score to settle with 'em, that's for sure!

I'm glad we areplaying the Hokies, it gives us a shot at a potential top ten team that is not in our conference. Go Vols!

That being said... We need to go into this game with the complete OPPOSITE attitude we went into the Maryland & Clemson CFA bowls with... I'm actually kinda pumped about the possibilities for UT should we win impressively. The best part (for me, anyway) is that I'll be scoring some free tix ( I have a ton of friends at CFA corporate!)and can get to the Dome in 30 minutes from my house!!

Its your board so yes Tyrod is a folder.

LSU in 2002 26 - 8

You may not be used to it on other forums, but differing viewpoints are welcome and may be presented without fear of retribution from the mods. Just keep it clean and all is well here!

After last season pretty much wound up in the toilet bowl, it's good to see the Vols in an actual bowl game this season.

Whatever the bowl and whoever the opponent, bring 'em on.

You can argue all you want most of us like hearing the other side of the argument. Just no profanity and no name calling and you can say whatever you want

Welcome to VN:hi:

I really don't understand where you guys are coming from when you say that VT isn't capable of blowing out BCS conference teams. (I assume you mean from a BCS conference not playing in a BCS bowl)

We blew out Miami 31-7
BC 48-14
Maryland 36-19
NC State 38-10
Virginia 42-13

We also blew out Marshall 52-10 (cUSA)

Also Tyrod Taylor never really folds. What really changes is we don't execute the running game like we need to. The running game is much more key than any QB folding in our system. Also Tyrod had a very good game against GT. He threw two picks, but one was a hail mary at the end of the half and the other was a tipped pass. He only has 4 total picks all year and really only two were bad decisions/throws.

CUSA isnt a BCS conference. Miami played horrible that game you know that but yes yall killed them. and the others are mediocre teams no offense. Outside the ACC yall struggle

Calling Maryland, NC State, and UVA "mediocre" is an insult to mediocre teams everywhere.

I realize that for Marshall. Thats why I had them apart from the other teams. I just think that its pretty good when you only play 12 games and you blow out 6 of your opponents, especially when you are talking to a fanbase that only has 7 wins blow outs or otherwise.

Who is to say that we just didn't play really well and made Miami look bad? Miami is 9-3 BC is 8-4. We blew out two teams with more wins than Tennessee. In the case of the BC game, the game was over midway through the 2nd quarter. They went into halftime with less than 10 yards total offense. I only see two blowouts to BCS teams on your schedule and they are to Georgia and USC. USC is questionable to call a blowout as it was only 18 points. Neither team has 8 wins.

If you want to argue SOS, most computer polls had us #1 for most of the year and around 10th right now.

Ill agree with Maryland and UVA, but NC State has some talent. They were hurt for much of the year and conveniently came back for our game!! They hung with and beat a UNC team that had every bit as good of a season has UT had this year. We still have 5 blowouts over BCS opponents, 1 of which is very good, and two of which are at least Mediocre. I think we have proven we can blow out BCS caliber teams especially when you consider there are only 12 games on the schedule. To say that we are incapable silly at best.

[Sorry this post is a bit redundant of another one but y'all have some semi-redundant threads.]

The Chick-fil-A bowl vs ranked VT during prime time on New Years' Eve in Atlanta's Ga Dome is MUCH BETTER than the Outback Bowl vs unranked Wisconsin at 11 am ET on NYD. In terms of prestige, exposure, recruiting, fan turnout, etc. -- in virtually every respect Tennessee is much better off. VT has devoted fanbase that will show up en mass in Atlanta for this matchup against a storied and well respected SEC team like Tennessee. This game could/should be a sell out.

Y'all should be glad and thankful to the Outback for picking Auburn.

That said, VT is a much tougher opponent than Wisconsin. The Hokies are the real deal -- a very talented and very well coached team that will hit you in the mouth and give it their all for four quarters. They will match up well against the Vols, will be well prepared and will bring it. The Vols will have to play their best to beat them. Should be a great game.

BTW, congrats Vols on a pretty dang good season (all things considered) and on landing in such a good bowl game.

If you play in the ACC and have a losing season, that doesn't qualify to be mediocre in my book.

We did better against y'all than VT did.VT only mustered up 155 yards total offense on Bama's D while we put up 341.

Those are all ACC teams. I am unimpressed. Tennessee blew out Georgia, who just happened to beat the best team in the ACC last weekend. We also beat South Carolina pretty badly, who just beat the second best team in the ACC. Combine that with the fact we have similar total defense per game, but we played a real schedule, and the fact that we have more offensive yards per game, once again with a real schedule, and I am not worried. And didn't Va Tech's hyped defense give up something like 500 yards to Bama? Perhaps your defensive stats are padded a little bit by playing a bunch of nobodies. Only way Va Tech stays in this game is if Tennessee has a few bad turnovers.
