Tenn vs VA Tech in the Chick-fil-a Bowl (merged)

i don't think that the ajc would stick their necks out unless they knew something.
Quote from article...
Tennessee will play Virginia Tech in the Chick-Fil-A Bowl on Dec. 31 at the Georgia Dome, according to a web site devoted to Tennessee athletics.

They also stated...
Attempts to reach Chick-fil-A Bowl President Gary Stokan and vice president of communications Matt Garvey by phone were unsuccessful.

For me, I like the idea of it being on primetime on NEW YEARS EVE. It will be a great matchup to play VIRGINIA TECH.

good match up I would have preferred the match up with a big Ten team in Florida...

It's a lesser bowl game than the Capital One

We had no shot at the Capital One. LSU should end up there.

The Outback's Facebook says that an announcement on the team's chosen for the bowl have been postponed until Sunday. They had originally stated that is would be this afternoon. Wonder what is up? Maybe a snag on the Big 10 side of the equation.

I'm seeing alot of along the lines of I think the SEC front office doesn't want all these decided/ announced till after the SEC championship game

either a possible safeguard or a move to keep attention on the UF/Bama championship game or something else...

Sounds plausible. Thanks.

ahm...Doesnt Wisconsin play Hawaii Sat? Dont you think the Outback wants to see the outcome of that game. If Wisconsin loses I guess northwestern or whoever they are would play us. Regardless my Auburn Tigers are in. Just figured I would set ya straight again. Go Tigers

Hope they clean your clock in the Outback. They will.

Hokies Headed To Chick Fil-A Bowl - wtvr

BLACKSBURG - The Virginia Tech Hokies received an invitation on Tuesday to play in this year's Chick Fil-A bowl in Atlanta on New Year's Eve.

Their opponents will be the Tennessee Volunteers out of the SEC.

This will be the fourth time the Hokies have played in the former Peach Bowl, their last appearance was a loss to Georgia back in 2006.

This will also be the third time Virginia Tech will play in the city of Atlanta this year. Their season opening game was played at the Georgia Dome against Alabama and they also played at Georgia Tech during the regular season.

This will be Frank Beamer's 17th straight bowl appearance with the Hokies, which will tie him with former BYU head coach Lavell Edwards for the fourth longest streak in history.

I like the matchup, but how it came about is BS. Auburn stole our bowl slot, no if and or butts about it. Screw Cheezit, i hope they get embarrassed by a big 10 school.

On a side note. Don't worry about a playoff taking away from the regular season. These douches just proved it's meaningless anyway.

At first I was disappointed in hearing we might play in the Chik-fil-A, but now that I hear Va. Tech may be the opponent I'm kinda glad. In the Outback we were more than likely going to play an unranked Big 10 team, now we play may play the 12th ranked team in the nation, and could possibly end up being ranked 10th. In a way this is actually a better bowl than the Outback, considering the opponent.

Exactly, now we just need all the people who covet that new years day game to see that.

Nobody agrees with you. Virginia Tech isn't that dangerous. They have a great running back and a scrambling quarterback that is a miserable passer.

Why are you so afraid? Sheesh. They're a good team and this should be a great game...but you're acting like Tennessee won't even show up.

That miserable passer has been in the top 10 in passing efficiency for the majority of the year. Tyrod is a tough match up for anyone.

Looking forward to the game. You can find me at the Cheetah on Wed.
