Tenn vs VA Tech in the Chick-fil-a Bowl (merged)

Lemons into lemonade. The Chikin Bowl is a less prestigious bowl, and the implication is that Auburn is a more worthy team. That is the takeaway to a lot of people, including recruits.

"It's a lock. Tennessee vs. Virginia Tech in the New Year's Eve Chick-fil-A Bowl in Atlanta, GA! That's a better drive for me anyway. Go Vols"

Steve Phillips on Channel 10 in Knoxville just reported at 6PM that the Chick-fil-a Bowl has yet to extend the offer to UT and is still thinking of inviting UGA instead. He said that the Music City or Liberty are still on the table. He also said that UT is working hard at getting the bid but it has not happened yet as reported.

Seems like we should be waiting for confirmation I suppose.

If we do end up going to the Chik-fil-a Bowl, the whole situation will definitely have its negatives and positives. Overall though, neither bowl is a BCS bowl, be it Wisonsin or Virginia Tech, I certainly don't see it affecting recruiting all that much. It could only help if we are able to defeat a highly ranked opponent.

to be fair, could you not say the same for the outback?

possibly, but watching college football is as much a new years day tradition as much as getting drunk and not caring about a crappy bowl game is a new years eve tradition. all i'm saying is that there is a prestige that comes with playing on New Year's and it sucks for the team to have worked so hard, and get screwed over like this.

even if that 11th ranked team destroys us?

If you don't want to play them because your scared, you need to find a new team to support. This is the Kiffin era guy WE AINT SCARED OF NOBODY, WE CAN PLAY WITH ANYBODY, AND WE GOT A PAIR. FIND YOURS

They were all 7-5, so the bowls can pick whoever they want out of it.

the division rankings are really only for us and the race to see who goes to atlanta. The bowls just care about overall records

The Outback traditionally picks from the SEC East. Second in the East trumps middle-tier West. The Outback made a statement by bucking tradition, and every single media report is spinning it as Tennessee was passed over. A lot of people care about that. I'd say the team and Lane Kiffin care very much, though they, like many on this board, will try and put a happy face on it.

Are you kidding? I sincerely doubt that any recruit gives a damn if we go to the Chick fil a bowl instead of the Outback. And I'd be willing to bet they'd be happier to watch us square off against VT 9 times out of 10 over some crap Big 10 team.

I don't really think the team was "scared" when they played UF, Bama, AU, UCLA or Ole Miss, but not being scared doesn't always equal winning.

Kiffin has shown me the light people. We ain't scared of nobody. We can beat any team in the country. Can i get an Amen?

We cant let their runningback pull a Dexter McCluster on us. If we stop the run and make Tyron Taylor throw then Eric Berry will be tacking on about 200 yards to his return yardage because Tyrod is too dumb to throw it away from him.

i don't think theyre scared either. But it sounds like you are. I don't want to play a cupcake for an easy bowl win. Lets knock off a top 15 ranked team

I'm guessing he has some games from previous years on tape because this year's VT is not that great

Well, they have talent and they are a well coached club but they are definitely down this year in a down conference. I think it would be a good matchup but in no way do I see us getting blown out. I don't think Virginia Tech would be capable of blowing us out, or any BCS conference teams for that matter.

its gonna be the peach bowl. He wouldn't have said that if he wasn't sure. I think its safe to go ahead and buy tickets and if it does change you can always sell them on ebay

I'd take that bet. Ask Lane Kiffin if he's happier to be going to the Chikin Bowl. Perception is everything, and recruits are impressionable. Chikin's better than Music City, but it's definitely a step down.

Even though this isn't official, I am really excited about the chance to go to Atlanta and watch us play Va Tech. Hope word comes down soon.

I will definitely be attending this one. Should make for a great match-up and a fun New Years
