What are you talking about - like 3 people? There were probabaly just as many people that couldn't go to the game on the 6th, but can now.
It's 5 months away. I was and am planning on going to the game. There is plenty of time to make changes to plans and prior engagements. Not a big deal at all.
When we went out to the Bay Area last year, I built a whole ten-day vacation around the game. Besides plane tickets, I had hotel reservations in four cities around northern California and backpacking permits (that were assigned by lottery and could not be changed) in the Sierra Nevada mountains. A couple of friends who are not UT fans booked the trip along with us, just for the backpacking trip and the visit to San Francisco. Because everybody had to arrange for so much vacation time, we had everything booked six months in advance. If they'd moved last year's game to a different weekend, I probably would have ended up having to keep my travel plans intact and miss the game instead.
I bet a lot of UT fans are in the same kind of boat with regard to the Los Angeles trip this year. It's a long way to go just for a football game, but once you wrap it up into a nice longer trip, it makes sense. Unfortunately you can't just reschedule that kind of a trip by paying a $75 flight change fee. I can understand why a lot of fans might be pissed about this.
It doesn't bother you, so you don't understand why it should annoy anybody else. Got it.
No, I'm sure it will affect the plans of some. But I don't think it is to the degree that some have suggested. As I said before, there are probably more people happy about the change as there are upset about it. That's all.
How many people have showed up in this thread and said they liked this change vs. how many have showed up and complained about it?
I'm not going to be able to make it this year, so I don't care one way or the other. But I just don't see how the benefit of appearing on ESPN on Labor Day outweighs the inconvenience that you're potentially inflicting on your most loyal fans, the kind who will travel 3,000 miles to watch the team play. I would have been LIVID if they had moved the game in April last year.
doesn't matter to me, i'll be watching from the comfort of my sports room.
but i can see why anyone that HAD ALREADY made travel plans would be upset.....reality, it's a small group that gets affected, and that sucks for them, but life goes on.
I had a buddy telling me he was reading about a vol fan that had a sports room with a big screen, keg, etc - but it had no immediate access to a nature facility. After a brief discussion that I had also heard of such a place, we determined that we were both talking about Jake Z's place.
I like this move. For everyone complaining, Hamilton is not going to pass up the chance to play an uncontested monday night game in front of a national tv audience. This is a big thing for the program. If you can't go now, sorry for you, but the majority of fans can still make it to this game seeing as that its on a holiday weekend. Good job Hamilton.
The game moved 5 days in a holiday week. If folks were planning a long trip, it probably included being on the west coast for Labor Day already.
cPanel®Following lengthy negotiations between no less than five schools and ESPN, Tennessee has a new opening date and opponent -- one already on its schedule -- for its upcoming 2008 football season, VolQuest.com first reported. Working with several schools to line up a premier matchup, ESPN will televise Tennessee's visit to UCLA and move the game into its prime-time, Monday Night Football slot on Labor Day. Kick-off will be 8 p.m. EST/5 p.m. PST. The deal was formally announced this afternoon.
