Probably no truly elite program would change its schedule, pissing off travelling fans who have already spent money and made arrangements and giving up a bye week to prepare for your fiercest rival in the process.

If this is true,
1. I will travelling to this game, and I like the idea of playing on Labor day. It will cause me minimal effort to change the plans - the game is 5 months away.
2. We still have a bye - the week before UAB now. UT has classically been a team that doesn't play well the game after a bye anyway.

From what I have read elsewhere, I do not think this is a joke of any sort. One other nugget to chew on. Neuheisel and Norm Chow have both been around the block. Whatever they want to put together in the way of an offense is going to be more or less a suprise to the Vols. Thankfully, the Bruins should be awful this year anyway.

I think its great. We get national exposure as the only game on Monday night. We still have the bye week (only before UAB). I'd rather play a game the week before Florida than have the bye. With the level UAB is at this year, we will obviously be able to spend some prep time on Florida in the two weeks before UAB.

On a side note - I'm looking forward to winning the Alabama state championship by beating UAB, AU, and UAT all in the same season.

If this is an April Fool's joke, I'm ashamed that the writers of Knoxville couldn't come up with something better than this.

That's true...it must suck to be working the UT Athletic phones today. On a side note, About 3-4 years ago, there was a DJ in Nashville (I think his name was Mo) anyway, he was a complete douche and said Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam died. He kept it going for a while. I think he was fired shortly after.

If this turns out to be an April Fools joke and this thread wasn't deleted, some people (pranksters) have a legitmate complaint.:)

Because of the people who were planning on going to the game but now can't due to prior engagements.

Why would people be "pissed off" about changes for a game 5 months away?

I agree.....:eek:hmy:. Worst case scenario is having to pay $75.00 to change your airline reservations.

Look at it this way, Clawson gets a national stage to unveil his offense.

What are you talking about - like 3 people? There were probabaly just as many people that couldn't go to the game on the 6th, but can now.

It's 5 months away. I was and am planning on going to the game. There is plenty of time to make changes to plans and prior engagements. Not a big deal at all.

Here's my hypothetical....

You see that the UCLA game is scheduled for Sept. 6th. The week before, labor day weekend, you schedule a family vacation because you know that the Vols are playing at home against UAB. Now, everything has changed. That is my reasoning as to why people would be "pissed off"

There will be a significant difference in travel prices for Labor Day weekend, which may or may not prove to be anything more than a minor annoyance to most people who were already planning to shell out for a trip to LA. I think you also have to think about the fans where planning on taking a little Labor Day trip to East TN and incorporate the Vols' home opener into their plans.
