I'm taking a couple gator friends with me this year for their first time, also staying at the Hilton. we'll be getting in friday afternoon-ish but you guys are welcomed to join us for any and all afterwards. Like I said, it will be a couple of their first times so I'll be taking them around to most of what everyone before me has stated.... just a thought. I'll also have a tailgate near Neyland that we'll set up pretty early, but will be lugging them around to see the sights and sounds of gameday at the best place in the world!!

Now that's an offer you can't refuse. This will save you lots of time trying to find your way around where you will have more time for fun. Nice offer BigOrange!

I personally like Calhoun's and it is really convenient if you wanna see and hang out some with the VolNavy.

This is cool what you guys are doing. You will have a great time.

If your into pizza then try Mellow Mushroom on the strip. Best Pizza in town!!

Agreed! My favorite pizza place. If I don't tailgate, (which I usually do) I will go to Mellow Mushroom and eat pizza, drink beer and hang out until game time. It is pretty easy to get in there before the game and they have plenty of TV's to keep up with other games. It is only about a 10 minute walk to the stadium.

Some people like Buffalo Wild Wings which is across the street but I have never been there. Maybe, someone else can give you their opinion of it.

Is Stefanos still there on the strip? They use to have the best pizza in K-ville

yes it is! I love stefano's, and being a buffet, it makes it that much better. But Mellow Mushroom is also very good, they are too close to say one is better than the other.

Calhoun's has some decent gameday food, particularly the ribs. I live in SC and have had better BBQ all over, but it's not bad for gameday food. The deck outside before the game will be rocking. You can watch the Vol Navy come in from there.

I am RV'ing to Fla game with some friends. We will park near Calhoun's, so feel free to PM closer to the game and you guys are welcome to come by for a drink.

. . .Man, what a great thread! I too, am coming down to K-Town for a ball game - Homecoming, Nov. 8th! Not a UT grad but have loved the Vols since 1965! Last time I was in Neyland was the 1971 Penn State game. . .all this information will help us do it right. . .just wish I could party like I did in '71 :):)

I understand the Wyoming game is at 1:00. . .too bad we won't experience Neyland at night!! Something tells me we'll have a great time anyway!

Go Vols. . .BEAT UCLA :horse:

There are other things, like restaurants (There's this one place that has some GREAT food but I can't remember the name. Todd Blackledge covered it during one of the football games last year.) and other traditions, but I'll stop for now.

The name of it is Litton's in Fountain City.

Oh yeah, and don't waste your time with East Tennessee BBQ.
If you want pork BBQ, go to Memphis.
If you want beef BBQ, go back to Texas.

You won't find any good kind of BBQ in East Tennessee.

Ridgewood up in Bluff City is by far better than anything in Memphis. By far. And yes, my relatives in Memphis have dragged me to all of it over the years.

I agree with what's been said about Pigeon Forge. I would rather go sit in a port-o-let in Gainesville for two hours than go anywhere near that place.

NO WAY!

My two best friends and I do the same trip... and also call it our "Fall Cathedral Tour".

We all live in Portland Oregon, and so far have gone to Penn State and ND... this year it is Tennessee!

We will be in Knoxville for the Bama game.

1. NEVER drive in pigeon forge if you can help it..ever ever ever.
2. Don't miss the pre game parade. Just find a big group of people and get ready for rocky top....it's awesome IMHO
3. Make sure you're in your seat for pre-game. When the vols run through the T.....wheeew. I get chills everytime I see it. It's the traditions that make game day in knoxville so amazing. It's also 106,000 + sitting on top of each other.

hello again, all...

thanks again for all of your incredibly helpful input...i really appreciate it. i was disappointed to see the vols go down to ucla in the first week (was hoping for a bit more hype going into the game), but at least it's gameweek now!!! and who knows, maybe we'll be there to see a shocker...as many seasons as florida ruined for tennessee in the 90's, maybe it's payback time. that would be great to see.

our plan is to scratch pigeon forge on friday, and just take in knoxville and campus on friday...and eat at the copper cellar. saturday, we'll start at calhoun's and hopefully that will take us somewhere fun...hopefully some good tennessee fans' tailgates. then check out all the pregame walk and parades...and then the game obviously. not sure what we'll do afterwards but the plan is to just follow the crowd.

here's a follow up question: obviously, if the vols win, knoxville will be a blast that night; however, does the town go somber and boring if they lose?

finally, since vince is hurt, we'll probably ditch the titans game and head to pigeon forge on sunday, then back to nashville to catch our flights back.

thanks again for all your advice, it is really, really appreciated.

I'm telling you as a football fan, I would go to the Titans game even with Eddie George at QB over going to Pigeon Forge. I can't explain for you enough how bad Pigeon Forge is.

First time poster looking for a little insight.

I am a Longhorn fan that really enjoys college football and everything that is " College Football Saturday". For the past few seasons, a buddy and I pick one non Big 12 game and make a trip. He is now living in Atlanta and I live in Texas, so location of the game is really not an issue. I know that there are all kinds of rivalries within the SEC, much like the Big 12, but Tennessee VS. Bama was the one we circled this year. I know a bit about The Vols and Bama on the surface, but nothing about Knoxville and the surrounding area. Any suggestions for lodging, game watching bars (got to keep up with my Horns) and eateries? Also, how diffcult is it to Scalp Tix? Would I be better off getting tix online?

Any information would be apprecited, and GO VOLS!

BTW, I am going to stick around this board until that weekend so if you have any questions about a team in my area of the country, fire away.

Be careful when you come into Neyland. It's a real stadium. You are only used to a "quaint" little stadium in Austin that doesn't vibrate or get very loud. (Sorry my husband is a Texas grad) We argue constantly about the proper shade of orange and the real UT.

At least you have a coach and a quarterback.....(well until OU anyway)
