Ten things for Tennessee (or, Buck up, guys and gals)

The biggest disappointment was the loss. No mater what anyone was thinking before the game, the loss was the biggest disappointment.

After the loss the biggest disappointment was no QB change. Pull him for a series or 2 and give someone else a chance and give JG a chance to clear his head.

1. You predicted we'd lose this game. Remember? When you said you thought we'd go 6-4, or 7-3? Or maybe even if you were one of the outliers at 5-5 or 8-2. You effectively said you expected this loss. Remember? I do.

2. Losses are never pretty. "Oh, but they don't have to be this ugly!" Man up, stop whining. They're never pretty. We are never gonna enjoy them.

3. Don't start hating now, when you objectively knew we'd be here. At this specific spot on this specific day. That's right, 2-1 with a loss to UGa at our backs and Kentucky next in our sights.

4. Sure, we all got excited after man-handling Mizzou. Built up some good war-rage going back and forth with the UGa fans in the week prior. Wound ourselves up like tops. Because that's what fans do. They get fanatic.

5. But today, sitting among the wreckage of the battle that didn't go our way, we have to try to be more objective about what we saw. What we learned.

6. Honestly don't know whether it was JG who gave out first, or the OLine, or the offensive play-calling. They all three crashed into that wall just after the 2nd half kickoff. But really tough to see whether one led the others. Was there some cause-effect, like bad play calling led the OL+ (plus RBs plus TEs) to fail in protection which in turn led to JG going spasmodic with turnovers? Or maybe JG's turnovers breaking the spirit of his protectors, while the play-callers got caught flat-footed? Don't know. Don't know which came first, or if they all melted down together. Don't think we'll ever really know.

7. One thing we do know: the defense didn't melt until they were over-exposed by an offense that kept putting them right back on the field. It wasn't the defense's fault in any way, even with the points given up in the 2nd half.

8. So draw whatever conclusions you wish. (a) we just didn't have the depth to keep going toe to toe with UGa for 60 minutes, or (b) we need a better QB, or (c) we need a new OL coach, or (d) our OC needs to get more creative, or (e) all of the above. Whichever one you wish. No one can definitively say you're wrong.

9. What I'm gonna do is this. I'm gonna remember that I saw this loss coming from before the season even started, that the logical part of me always knew it would probably turn out that way. I'm gonna thank our coaches and the lads for giving it a really good shot, and cheer them on as they get ready for an important game versus the kitties of Kentucky.

10. After all, we might still go 7-3, just like many of us thought we might.

Go Vols!

Assuming they don't start Gatewood, Kentucky is a fairly one dimensional team who only had 157 yards yesterday against MissSt that LSU scored 34 points on.

We come out with a chip on our shoulders take it to the kitties!

I seriously don't think Kentucky will get 6 interceptions against us.

Man I need to watch that game to figure out how Kentucky didn't slaughter Miss St.

I didn’t expect to have 21 on the board by halftime. We were in a great position coming out of first half, that’s what makes it so much more disappointing. Need to shake it off though and get after Kentucky.

Yes, objectively nobody really believed we were suppose to win this.

We were competitive though. They did own the line of scrimmage, but we were right there with them for the most part. Very different compared to prior beatings. Completely different than last year even. It was still a one score game with our defense single handedly keeping us in the game until the end of the third quarter. Without the sack fumbles its a 10 point game or closer.

It just simply was the worst possible match up. They were a little too fast for our tackles and overwhelmed us with pure NFL talent in the middle. Maybe if JG was a really good QB he could have made more out of it, but I dont think you'll see Mac Jones or Kyle Trask have a picnic out there either. When you have guys in your face all day something bad is going to happen.

The most important thing to remember is this..... we will not see anybody that good on defense for the rest of the season. Nobody will come close! I expect to see more Missouri performances in the future. There was a reason we were able to do that. That performance is way more indicative of what we really are than what we saw against UGA.

Kentucky, Bammer, Arky, Auburn, A&M, Vandy and Florida dont have anything close to what UGA has on defense and most of them are pretty dreadful on defense.

I think what we need to worry more about is our defense against Mac Jones, those fast receivers, Kyle Trask, and Pitts. Thats where those games could get ugly. Offense won't have much of a problem. JG will always be a wild card, but he has been solid, when he hasn't had 11 guys in his mouth all game long.

Can agree. Honestly, after the loss I knew this was the last place I wanted to spend some time. lol Instead, I just tried to relax and get my mind off of it. All of the talk after a loss is just exhausting to me. Can't change what already happened, just lost to a really good team.
