Ten deserving candidates for coach of the year (Kiffin is one of them)

I just saw that! Glad he is on there! Here is what it says about him.

He only has one win in the SEC, but every SEC team knows that the Vols are not last year's pushovers. Kiffin's Vols managed to make the two top teams in the country — Florida and Alabama — look pedestrian at best. The smack-talking former USC offensive coordinator has also taken on Urban Meyer and Steve Spurrier in a war of words in a conference where Southern hospitality had always prevailed. Every conference needs an Eddie Haskell, right?

Hope CLK gets the POSITIVE recognition he deserves.
I havent been this motivated about the Vols, since, well honestly, since Peyton was here. There have been great games, exciting moments, but what I'm talking about is the energy of the WHOLE Team, Coaches, and the anticipation of what is to come.
I really feel that the rest of the SEC is genuinely concerned about what is happening in K-Town, and they need to be.
I'll admit, I was skeptical about CLK's hire. Not anymore.
:fireworks: Go VOLS :fireworks:

Back! BACK! What is your record?

I couldn't agree with this more.

Tennessee is not back. Headed back, probably, but we're not back yet until we start winning those games. I've got no problem with Tennessee fans looking for the positive and being excited about the future, but really, beating our chests about playing teams close when we have a losing record is ridiculous.

Let's see, 3 wins this season and 2 of them came against Western Kentucky and Ohio. Yep, definitely coach of the year.

Awww...jealous that crybaby Meyer isn't on there?

Nope, not jealous at all. The 2 recent BCS titles and current #1 BCS ranking have me feeling pretty good.

FYI...You are aware that Kiffin was just reprimanded by the SEC for crying-right?

Back! BACK! What is your record?

A Morality Tale:

In ancient England, there was a small village near the coast. It had strong defensive walls and its smug inhabitants lived a comfortable life save from harm.

One day, lookouts spotted a viking ship on the horizon. The village inhabitants had never been beaten by barbarians so they confidently awaited the arrival of the Norsemen. The vikings landed on shore and quickly made mincemeat of the village men guarding the shore. By the end of the day, the vikings had forced the hapless villagers back inside their walls where they cowered in fear. All night, the vikings pounded on the village gate with a huge battering ram until the timbers began to split. Then just before disaster struck and the villagers were all slaughtered or carried off into captivity, the largest villager, a veritable mountain of a man, accidentally fell off of the village wall and crushed the viking battering ram.

The vikings returned home defeated and the villagers rushed out of the gate, removing their armor in celebration. They spent the next year in feasts and celebrations of their incredible fighting skill and military prowess. They constantly boasted of how they were the greatest and strongest village that ever there was.

The vikings spent that same year going doggedly from fjord to fjord of their native land, recruiting the fiercest and mightiest warriors in the land.

Then, after that full year, as the autumn winds blew across the moors and the leaves of late October fell from the trees, the vikings returned...

They're my superbowl dark horse. since Favre's return I wouldn't bet against them!

Sorry, gang, but we're not back until we win games. That's the bottom line. We can blather all we want about being back--but in the end we've lost the games and until we actually beat florida and bama it's all just filler material for columns and radio sports-talk guys. We'll have the same QB issues next year that we've had this--who would have thought that we might actually miss the Cromponator? The bottom line is winning.

Substitute "Monte" for "Lane" and even I might vote for the guy.

While I won't deny Monte's success, you aren't the least bit impressed with Lane's ability to make Crompton into something 3 other coordinators couldn't?

What's the name of the chick in your avatar again LG?

If we win out lane makes a strong case for the award. I'm sure he could care less though.

Denise Milani.

I think everyone is impressed with Kiffin's recruiting ability, and he has the team and the program motivated and pointed in the right direction, no doubt.

But in the end its W's that matter and that at some point comes down to game coaching. I am by no means saying he can't do that, or that he won't excel at that. But twice so far (UCLA and this past weekend), there's been this timidity at the end of a game that sort of makes you scratch your head.

Now, it could be that its just the reality of what he has to work with, I certainly get that. The key will be how does he coach in those tight situations when he has the talent to win those tight games at the very end by sheer advantage of skill.

Again, not saying he can't do it, saying its too soon to really know.

Monte, on the other hand, comes in with a reputation for building stalwart defenses, and he has absolutely lived up to that.

I'll agree here. He's not winning squat but he is taking over the conversation and publicity. Do you get a trophy for that ?

IMO, with this ut glass is half full attitude, Coach Monte Kiffin should be getting 95% of the credit based on ACTUAL game performance.

You can argue whether it was the right call or not, but trying to win a game when you need to gain one yard by asking your OL and your RB to step up and punch the other guys in the face is not exactly "timidity."
