Telling article on Ducks fans

I thought all the Oregon fans were great when we were out there earlier this year. I can't wait to see all the Bama fans leaving early when the Ducks are beating them in the championship game.

By all accounts Oregon fans and UT fans got along famously when they came to Neyland. Many were blown away by our hospitality. When it came time for us to travel to Autzen, Ducks fans took to their boards and told other fans of the experience they had here and asked Ducks fans to go out of their way to return the kindness. There was quite a bit of talk about this on their boards and how Tennessee fans deserved the royal treatment based upon how well they'd been treated and how the word needed to spread throughout Duck Nation.

I remember a few Oregon fans were worried that their fellow fans wouldn't be so gracious but from the reports I've heard by Vol fans who made the trip it was a great experience -- student section did some stupid stuff but overall they rolled out the green carpet for us just as we rolled out the orange carpet when they visited.

Tennessee fans and Oregon fans have a good relationship.

That all said, the PAC isn't like the SEC in terms of fan behavior -- we tailgate together, begrudgingly respect our SEC opponents, try to show guests a good time (minus the drunks), and even cheer our conference in post-season whereas they don't really have that kind of camaraderie. For us, football is as much about socializing before and after as it is the game itself. In contrast, they seem to hate all fellow PAC members the way a UF fan hates to see a good piss bomb go to waste.

Oregon fans have a reputation within their conference as being lousy hosts to say the least -- a lot of that is likely due to bandwagon fans jumping on due to their recent success. However, I doubt it's half as bad as the worst descriptions.

Regardless, they treated us well.

He has a point. This is the exact reason why I hate watching sports with other people, most have no clue what's going but they act like they can coach a NC team.

He has a point that just about everyone who goes to a game will understand. But I thought an anonymous letter in the paper w/ slavery references went a little overboard

Agree! I was there. Had a blast and was treated very, very well and was complimented several times on how they were treated in Knoxville. We hung out at tailgates before the game with several Duck fans and then met up afterward with our new found friends and went out to the bars. Very good people in Oregon!

Their student section acted like every other student section, mostly drunken idiots! Ours or anyone else's is no better or worse. It was the same when I was a student and will never change. You don't judge a fan base by their student section!

In 16 years as an Oregon resident, I've ever only attended one college football game here -- guess which one? My experience was typical of what has been posted here by other fellow Vols who were there.

But even if I hadn't been there and knew nothing about how Duck fans behave, I would still be skeptical of this guy's account of his experience. Something about this story is just not right.

Canzano blog: Ex-Ducks player to Oregon fans 'Go (bleep) yourselves' | OregonLive.com

I take it this guy has never been on a message board.

Not excusing a handful of obnoxious fans out of the thousands around him, but this letter makes him look pretty oblivious, IMO.

The most egregious part is comparing college football players to slaves. Are you kidding me? Talk about being completely clueless and lacking perspective.

Honestly, I didn't even have to read the letter to know what it was going to sound like, all I needed was to see the name "Canzano" associated with it and knew it would be negative, this guy couldn't keep a job with a British newspaper as a writer. He gets things wrong too much of the time.

This guy has no understanding about team sports and he's made a career out of cheap shot journalism. Doesn't make any difference whether it's the Ducks, Blazers, etc. he's going to talk as if he "knows" the answer, while taking cheap shots to sell himself as a "journalist".

Given that the letter was "anonymous", it's quite possible Canzano wrote the letter himself.

I'm not saying the Duck fans are "perfect" we're not, we've got some that need to adjust behavior. But Canzano is just not a credible person.
