Telander looks slow

Doesn't look like anybody is teaching tackling technique for the linebackers and the secondary, notices many MSU ball carriers simply stepping through the tackles, the legs are never twisted up with the arms and hands, too much desire to throw the body at the other players body, which makes a nice highlight if you flatten the guy, but results in an additional 10 - 12 years if you miss. The defensive secondary has been a problem and sub par defensive structure since Heupel got here, I do question the overall capability of some of his defensive position coaches, we can and should do better, particularly when looking at the lack of continued improvement over the Heupel years, the Nico apologist are apologizing for the Banks/Martinez product on the field

All I know is, twice so far today, Teelander has been the only orange jersey between a running back and the end zone: He put the runner down both times.

He may not be tackling for loss, but he's preventing scores. Good open field tackling.

Go Vols!
Thank goodness for that. Know we do a lot of thudding to cut down on injuries in practice, but it doesn't seem to matter. When I watched some of our guys in the highlights on Youtube try to tackle, it's just crazy how inept they can look at times. Might be time to get back to some old school tackling to the ground in practice?

I was constantly screaming at the tv at our linebackers constantly making tackles 5-8 yards downfield. If our lineman didn’t make a stop in the backfield the linebackers were getting ran over downfield. Surely this isn’t what they are taught

Teelander just does not have the speed to play linebacker in the SEC. Seems out of
Position on the majority of the running
Plays and can not catch up in space
Yess. Big time. Love the kids heart n toughness … but every other play u see number 22 mis tackles n out position n just little to slow. Time to give a big shout out to.Edwin spillman . Number 13 was all over the field . He is only going get better too

Please, feel free to send the suggestion to the team. I will be interested to see the PFF grades for the game and see what they show. They grade every player on every play, not just the one or two that some experts grade the entire game on. There were 86 total defensive plays. How many was he in, and how well did he play?

About half of them. And PFF agrees with the consensus. Not good. 2nd worst defensive grade.

You go into battle with the men you have, not the men you want- General George Patton… I think.

“Men, be wary of the Bama fans when going to Tuscaloosa. If you are bitten, make sure that you get a penicillin shot as they all carry the communicable diseases due to inbreeding.”

- General George Patton (probably)

I went and looked at the full pff ratings for the game. From a LB standpoint, ONLY Arion Carter even graded out at starter level. Every other one graded out as backup. In fact, only 8 players graded out as as starter level or above on the entire team. The highest was Joey Aguilar who graded out as all conference, despite having his worst game overall.

I don't think the ratings are designed (conference, starter level, etc) to be looked at at the individual game level, they come in too low in that view. You have to look at the full season for that to apply.

IMO, just from looking at these every week for the last 4 years, at the single game level 60+ is okay, 65+ is good, 70+ is very good, 80+ is excellent.

The VQ guys were talking about how LB Burns played 13 snaps as well. He hadnt really played all year after having a good fall camp...then got thrown in the fire for 13 snaps vs MSU. I didnt see LB Harmon and dont know if he even played? Burns has more experience though and Harmon is a true freshman so who really knows?

I trust Coach Inge no matter what. The LBs havent been great this year other than Arion Carter who leads the SEC in tackles but is taking too many snaps. Thats apparently because the freshmen and RS freshmen just arent ready to play yet whether thats a mental/playbook thing, a physical thing, or a maturity and commitment thing. Coach Inge is a great recruiter though and has brought in serious talent at the position. Harmon/Perlotte were both 4 stars UGA and everyone else wanted in 2025. For 2026 he landed 2 bigtime LBs both ranked in the top 100 recruits. Our LB group is gonna seriously improve over time with all that talent and Inge being a really good coach IMO. GO VOLS

The biggest problem I see is that our LBs keep getting trapped inside. The LBs are suppose to "float" behind the LOS and meet the RB in the hole. Our LBs seem to be way to eager to charge and are getting tangled in the LOS. All those end runs are the LBs responsibility. If you watch the game you could see the state RBs get the ball, wait till our LB comes charging through one hole and then take the other one for a nice gain.
