Tee Martin receives UT HC endorsement from USC

Not sold on Tee Martin as the next Head Coach at UT and we as a fan base should be smart enough to know this after the experiments we've had over the last decade. Make a legit hire regardless of money and regardless of how long it takes.

Gundy is a proven winner. I'll take a proven winner over a coordinator any day. But if it doesn't work, Tee would be a good fall back

Exactly. Gundy is a no brainer, bit after that, every one of them is a risky hire

I was all aboard the Gruden train, but since that seems to have left the rails, I could get onboard with Tee, Gundy or Brohm.

Yes let him learn at Grambling etc. If he was HC here next year and failed you guys would be ready to crucify another Volunteer

they crucify him now with sly comments...PM walks on water...Tee kicks puppies and steals ice cream from kids.

I love Tee and would be happy to have him as OC but right now he's maybe 5th on my list of realistic candidates. And that only cause of his playing days here. If he'd played somewhere else he probably wouldn't be in my top 10.

Wasn’t there another Tennessee guy who had no head coaching experience and was an offensive coordinator before becoming coach. Put your thinking cap on.

Ask a 3x Rose Bowl coach at Arkansas how much it matters. Ask Georgia if it matters.

Sometimes you gotta take a risk. After Kiffin, people demanded HC experience and we ended up with two idiots. Dooley was a joke, while Butch, nobody’s first choice, had an impressive record and 10 win seasons.

If you hire a quality coach like Gundy- you go with him. If not, there’s no guarantee experience will help. Especially with no SEC ties.

If we are turned down by Gundy, Frost, Kiffin, Peterson, Patterson, then by all means go with Tee. But we need to break the bank for a proven winner and quit low balling with coaches that may or may not get it done, regardless of if they've been a head coach at a small school or not.

Not a serious candidate. Screw this idea of bringing in a Tennessee guy. That means nothing. Get an actual good head coach.

Maybe in 15 years or so we can get Tee and not be laughed at.

We are already being laughed at. You thing hiring a great recruiter and assistant, who just so happens to know what it takes to win a NC and knows how things should be done here would make it worse? :thud:

His offense is ranked top 15 and our seasoned coaches was bottom 5. So there is that....
Its a gamble that I'm willing to take.

I'd be happy enough if we decided on Tee, but with all due respect, Clay Helton is a QB guru and a strong offensive mind, and Sam Darnold is a stud. Tee only has two years there as OC, so hard to get an accurate reading on how good he really may be.

How nice of you to want to hold him back....if he's ready, he's ready. He will have a great mentor in CPF.

But he's not ready. Not even close. He's not even a really good OC right now. Right now he has no clue how to run the daily in's and out's as a HC. He hasn't learned under a great HC on how you do the right things and doing it the right way.

so you would rather take Chad Morris or the NC State coach??? ok.....cause those are great hires....

3 Scenarios:

Lane Kiffin

Tee Martin

Les Miles with Tee as OC/HCIW

Any of those 3 are the only win win scenarios.

I won't believe we are willing to spend 6-8 million until that contract gets signed.

Is this the same Tee who turned us down before and decided to stay in LA because his wife didn't like it in Knoxville?

Don't know. Is he still married to her? Does his son live in the Knoxville area? I would be very happy if Tee is the new HC. Know it's a risk, but heck, he's a VFL. Welcome him home!

His offense is 19-3 since he inserted Darnold.

Horrible.
