Once pad and helmets come on they lose about 0.6 speed.
Same for everyone else so what’s the point? They’ve gotten bigger stronger faster that’s the point. In about 30 days we’ll see if it translates to game speed.

I like that Tee tossed a positive out to the media about JJ. He's had issues keeping his emotions in check it seems. But it sounds like they've gotten his attention and he's doing what they ask in a leadership role.

It’s easy to say that before the season. When the pads are on, in the heat, against Fl, he’s gonna JJ. It just is who he is but I personally like it.

Banks has the same attitude, I’m glad there won’t be a void after JJ is gone.

Marquez and Jerrod both run 4.4 flat?

But...but that’s impossible bc the Negavols said we don’t have any speed. How can this be?
What is always so funny to me about this is most people have no clue just how fast that is. A 4.4 flat is absolutely blazing fast. This makes my heart flutter a little bit. The big orange is going to have a good year.

You're not woke enough if you didn't detect the sarcasm.

It's gonna pay off big time having a real strength and conditioning program back on campus.

Yeah, you know more than Tee. Give us all a break and stop making freaking excuses for JG's inadequacies. Enough already! We all know there are several of you out there that constantly defend JG to the end and make it all other player's faults.
I guess you missed where it said he got faster. He wasn't that fast last year.

Boy, I hope the players can keep the pre-season excitement all the way through the end of the season; regardless of the losses.

All you say is true but the biggest reason JG had such a ****** year is not because he lacked talent but because he had precious little time to throw the ball on the money. the kid got bounced around like a rubber ball. Hopefully this year he will have improved his throwing time and all around ability and will have time to make the plays we hope he can make. Grandpa
Disagree. I think it was near equal parts of mental and physical breakdowns by the OL and poor or slow decision making by JG. I think all have the physical talent to perform if they've developed physically and mentally.

At this point, it does not matter as much as both getting much better. He needs to speed up and be more consistent/thorough in his reads. They obviously can't miss assignments... or get trucked by 245 lb DE's.

I really like our WR core. They all bring different qualities. Murphy is my sleeper for this year. I think he'll make some big plays.

I do believe Palmer and Marquez have the ability to be NFL players. It's hard to tell when our offense as a whole for the past two years has struggled mightily in certain areas.

Palmer has all the physical attributes to be an elite receiver but needs to improve on the little things.

Marquez makes huge plays and can high point the ball well. Also seems to have glue on his hands. But he needs to work on being consistent and getting better separation.

JJ brings reliability and the physicality that is impressive. I'd hate to be a CB/S matched up with him. However, he needs to work at being a better receiver overall and I think if he can really iron out his weaknesses, he could go in middle to late rounds of the draft.

...so...what you're doing now...

If you don't see the hypocrisy in your post then I have no faith you'll ever change your mind.

KB literally said in his post that JG is somewhat to blame for our struggles but not the sole reason.

No, I don’t know more than Tee, never said I did. I’m saying we’ve all watched Callaway for 3 years now and he has strengths and weaknesses. He’s big, he’s physical and he’s excellent at going up and coming down with 50/50 balls. He’s also good at getting yards after the catch. However, nobody’s ever said one of his strengths is his speed on a football field because it’s not....he doesn’t run past people, neither does JJ.

Perhaps he’s somehow greatly improved his speed this offseason, that he does actually run 4.4 now, but at no point has he shown that type of speed during any of his first 3 seasons. Josh Malone was a legit 4.4 guy and he ran past people all the time his last year here, which is largely why had 11 receiving TDs in 2016....Marquez had 2 last year and one was on a Hail Mary vs Kentucky. Marquez rarely ran 9 routes last year because its not his strength....Malone used to run em all the time because it was.

Also, anyone paying attention to Tennessee’s WR recruiting the last two years knows that getting speed in the group has been the focus to compliment the skill sets of the players we have, which is size and physicality, not speed.

No, our not having fast WRs that couldn’t get separation downfield last year was a fact. JJ is a 4.65-4.75 guy maybe, Callaway ain’t a burner (I know Tee said he’s run 4.4 this summer, but at NO point in his career thus far has he resembled a guy who runs 4.4), neither is Brandon Johnson. Palmer seems to be the fastest of the 3 for sure, but rarely ran past anybody either. So, we played to our guys strengths which was to throw back shoulder and 50/50 balls because our guys are physical and very good at high pointing the ball and winning those battles. 50/50 balls for our guys last year were more like 60/40 balls.

And nobody is saying JG did no wrong last year. He was far from perfect and needs to improve in getting the ball out a little quicker and “throwing guys open” with more consistency. Those of us who defend him do so against guys who say he sucks, can’t read defenses, can’t do this, can’t do that, blah blah blah, and blame him for everything. JG, on balance last year, was one of our best, most consistent players and was not the reason the team sucked....he needs to get better, but he was much better than most of our players at the others positions on the team.
So you have been to the Summer workouts and have seen all the QBs and WRs working together. I am sure you have also been to the S&C sessions and have personally timed each player. In other words you are saying that the coaches and player are not telling the truth about the progress made in the off season. For some reason, I believe the coaches and players this time around.

According this site, NFL Draft Scout, MC’s best time is a 4.42 and his worst is a 4.62.

Marquez Callaway, Tennessee, WR, 2020 Draft Scout, DraftScout.com/NFL Draft Scout

JJ’s best time is a 4.52 and his worst is a 4.72.

They haven't yet either.
Only one of us made a presumption about losses demoralizing the team before they happen.

In my opinion the season and those demoralizing losses hinge on the DL. If it is good this team has potential
