I say bring him home. Our team was truly united when he was the QB. He’s the kind of leader that everyone respects. His upside is huge and it’s wortt the risk.

Phil made it a point in the press conference yesterday to say that he wants experience but at the same time acknowledged that he (Phil) was just an OC when he took his HC job at UT. I have to believe that Phil will reach out to Tee and at least talk about it.

Maybe I've just caught a case of the "Rainbows & Butterflies" delusion, but I can see a Gruden HC, Martin OC/HCIW, ??? DC package. Gruden comes in as CEO for 3 to 5 years, with Martin as the OC / Recruiting Coordinator. Then Gruden sails off into the sunset as a VFL hero, and Martin picks up right where JG left off.

Personally, I think Coach Fulmer would approve of that package deal.

Go Vols.

That was supposedly floated as a possibility by Gruden to boosters trying to broker the deal. Let’s hope there’s some truth to it.

There are still people that believe Gruden is a head coaching candidate? Lol

You lost me when you mentioned Gruden. I've begun to despise the name.

As for Tee, I'm torn. We could catch lightning in a bottle and grab the next star head coach or we could condemn the program to another decade of mediocrity. I so very much want a proven head coach for the quickest turn around, but given the state of the program and the damage to the brand, we may have few choices better than taking a shot with Tee.

What I'm hoping is that Fulmer is revisiting every candidate from Peterson on down....but making that man the clear #1 target. My hope is the AD change will make a proven coach reconsider and we don't have to take a chance on a coordinator who may or may not be in full control of the offense we are seeing at USC.

Until he publicly says "no", then yes. He's dropped plenty of hints, and his cameo appearances in Knoxville were likely more than just coincidence. If he wanted to lay low, he knows how.

I think he gets a call from Coach Fulmer, and we'll know a lot more about "who's who" by close of business on Monday.

I also think Clay Travis, at times, is worth listening to...and this is one of those times.

Go Vols.

Why not?

After the madness of this past week its possible. We basically had the Haslams using this search as a tool to wield their power. Maybe now with Fulmer at the lead actually trying to land the best coach possible rather than a stooge, there's a chance.

I would personally be happy with either Gruden or Tee as head coach. Both are home run hires IMO.

Solid post. Solid logic. I have a different opinion on Gruden. I think he was contacted, was interested, and then saw the drama unfolding in the AD. He either decided or was advised to sit tight and let it play out. With Coach Fulmer emerging as the Interim AD, I think if Gruden was ever a serious candidate, it's now. If not, I expect to hear something from the Gruden camp this weekend, or NLT Monday.

Tee? Again, I agree with your opinion. That's why having him here for a year or three as the OC would tell us if he's the right man to take the helm when Gruden is ready to retire.

The one thing I am absolutely certain of...well, two things...is that (a) UT has the right man running the AD and coaching search, and (b) it ain't over with the Haslam clan.

Forewarned is forearmed.

Go Vols.

If we want the USC offense then maybe Tee should bring the QB with him. Don’t forget that USC has the top NFL prospect. Not sure how much of that was there out of HS and how much Tee helped develop.

IMO it would be a sin not to interview Tee. Also IMO he has earned the right to be a HC and the opportunity to either suceed or fail at UT. He needs a unique associate coach to guide him in some areas.

So Tee, a coach in training with an assistant that's more qualified? Interesting concept

How about a qualified HC with TEE as OC HC in training.
Pay him three times what's making at USC

It would work great but Tee has to much pride for this and I can't really blame him. I think with Tee it is all or nothing.

Gruden is like the promised tax cuts...ain't happening. He's loving the attention. Strokes his ego. This so-called courtship with him has been going on for...well...seemingly forever. With each and every coaching search since Fulmer was fired, it's Gruden mania. We've got a better shot at Saban than Gruden.

As for Tee coming here for a few years as OC, I don't think that's realistic given the family situation. He's not moving across the country from LA for a lateral move. No way. If he comes here, it's as the head coach. Even then I have to wonder what momma might say about living in the hills of east tn? Do not discount the influence a wife exerts on the husband. Maybe the money makes it work, but she will have a say and if that word is no, Tee ain't coming either. I've been married for 35 years...trust me on this.

Right now my one slim bit of hope for a proven guy is that Fulmer is the AD. No one can sell this university and this job better than Fulmer. Maybe he can turn one of the big names. Then again, just when my hope spikes, I remember some of his hires when he was the head coach and my mind jumps to his reported support for Doeren.

So, with all that said, I'm in a position of hoping for the best and fully expecting and preparing for the worst. This is UT and their track record is well established. If there's a way to f*** something up, this board/admin will stumble, fumble and fall head first into it.
