If Pruitt ever leaves is Tee the next Head Coach at Tennessee.
Before his hire, I predicted that was what he was being groomed for. Even if not for UT, that would be his next career arc. He interviewed for the Georgia Southern gig and wasn’t even strongly considered. Really believe Fulmer would have loved to interview him but didn’t want to insult the process. In Knoxville, under Fulmer’s wing, he can begin developing contacts and relationships that will help him in developing staffs, recruiting connections and administrative personnel that are the unseen backbone of a head coaching tenure. Pruitt’s concise plan (including names) in gathering a staff, indicating efficient speed in the process is what wowed Fulmer in the first interview and landed him the job. Kiffin is notorious in recruiting support personnel as well as assistants. When he bolted to USC, Lane wanted to bring a hotshot, superstar admin who was established at UT. She told him no, but he got her on the phone and kept passing it around to different people...including Daddy Monte to sway her...and he did. Telling that story to demonstrate how bought in Tee is at his alma mater. Being a titular OC under Kiffin but not otherwise building his resume for the next step of his career wasn’t sellable. If Pruitt ever leaves is Tee the next Head Coach at Tennessee.
That was when coaches weren't fired in 2 years, we live in a what have you done for me lately society. Look at Chizik, the guy was 2 years removed from a National Title and was fired. Also Fulmer took over a pretty good situation Majors had built. I'm not saying Tee won't ever be HC here, I hope he find success wherever it may be but if Pruitt has success and leaves then there will be plenty of better options at that time. We will seeYou’d also have to take Fulmer out of the equation.
Wut?Hold your horses. Lets get to "if Chaney retires in the next 3-4 years, Tee will be the next OC"
While i hope he one day ends up being the coach, I would have to think that if Phil leaves before that opportunity presents itself, it would come down to Phil's replacement. As long as Pruitt does well here and rebuilds the program to double digit wins per year and competing for SEC Titles, Phil ain't getting touched.
