Tecmo Super Bowl

Man this is making me want to play. I don't have an NES anymore. Good times. Another rule we had was banning the nose guard dive that blows up almost every play. You could use the nose guard, just couldn't dive with him immediately.

I bought my buddies NES a few years back and started buying up all the good games I could find. Haven't played in a while, but this is making me want to also.

Hahaha! Nose gaurd dive was evil. You could get like 100 something sacks in a season.

There was also a few teams that had near guaranteed field goal blockers.

In the original techmo Bowl I was always the Raiders. I learned how you could get a sack almost every play as Howie Long.

This game was my absolute favorite. Had all the teams. You could play multiple seasons, and freaking trade. (though the computer had no idea about how to judge a good or bad trade)

It's been YEARS since I've played this. Was it the one where you received a code so that you could save your progress and pick up at that point by entering said code?

If so, and if anyone happens to still have a NES and wants to try this, enter either one of these codes: (they must be embedded permanently in my memory)

34BFFCA0

or

34BFFCA3

IIRC, either one will load up this weird glitch game where the field is gray, the only markings are the yard lines (10, 20, etc.) and your team is also gray, which means you can't see your own player except when they cross those yard lines (they're always highlighted by the arrow, but you get my drift). It seems the opposing team was usually the Colts. Your team is sooooooo fast, if the QB lines up in the shotgun, you can usually hit him before the snap gets to him. As far as offense or returning kicks, it's kinda like Bo Jackson hopped up on steroids. You can literally run circles around the defense.

The best sports game ever. The Cowboys have been my favorite team for quite sometime and were always fun to play with. Emmitt would get 300+ yds against the Browns opening every season, ha! The Vikings were great, Bo Jackson, Christian Okoye and of course QB Eagles. But my favorite player to be was Lawrence Taylor. Ridiculous on D. I must have played thousands of games. They only took 20 minutes. I remember getting every team through the Super Bowls several times. In fact I just played it earlier today. My regular Nintendo still works like a champ and I regularly play the old games on it. TSB is a must, Mario 3, etc...

Andre Tippett was a brutal LB too. Giants with LT, Pepper, Banks, Marshall, Dorsey, Howard got it done. Iirc Marshall was the kick blocker.

Take note of my post above yours. Let me know if that still works, please?

no.
raiders b/c of bo jackson being almost unstoppable and they have been my favorite team since 80. 49ers were good as well.
seemed like i played this game for years and it never got old. if you picked the matching d to the offensive play called it would almost completely break down. that was the only bad thing.

Raiders are simply not a good team on this game. Middle of the pack at best. Bo Jackson is all they have. Jay Schroeder is terrible and their defense is atrocious.

I wouldn't doubt it against the computer or weak players. Against decent human competition, though, Jackson can be contained. Schroeder is an INT waiting to happen, and they can't stop anyone. One of the worst D's on the game. Howie Long is pretty good, but that top DE is not a strong position on the game.

not sure how good all my friends were, but i almost never played against the computer. if i wanted to pass, i took the 49ers, run = raiders. i lost some, but won waay more than i lost. i haven't played it in years though.

it was a fun game, but nowhere near goat imo. maybe greatest of a 5 year span or something like that.

Google search provided this gem:

The 12 Most Underrated Players in “Tecmo Super Bowl” | Four Horsemen Tattoo - Confessions of a Sports Fanatic

Great read for Tecmo lovers. Enjoy:

6. Bobby Humphrey, RB Broncos
You don’t hear many people bragging that they scored 11 touchdowns in one game with Bobby Humphrey. That’s because they’ve never tried. Running behind the Bronc’s above average offensive line, Humphrey can get loose quite easily with his 69 rushing power, and 63 maximum speed.
*Nothing drops panties in a bar quicker than:
YOU: ”Hey Babe. Did you know I once rushed for 857 yards and 11 touchdowns in one game with Bobby Humphrey on Tecmo Super Bowl?”
HER: “I WANT YOU!!!!! Every other creep uses that line with Bo Jackson or Barry Sanders, like it’s some accomplishment………..Why don’t we go back to my place, and I’ll tell you about the time I recorded 17 sacks with Bill Pickel.”

1. The GOAT?
2. Your favorite team? Why?
3. Nuances that make the game so great?

WARNING: This isn't amateur hour, people. If you bring weak, lazy opinions, prepare to be ridiculed. A Tecmo thread deserves better!

Discuss.

geesh, the memories with this game. One of my friends got a big screen tv - a projection about 48-50 in which was huge at that time - and we'd set up tourneys playing Tecmo Super Bowl. You'd draw a team out of a hat, play a semi season, then a playoff for the championship. That's a whole day right there.

Thanks for the online link to this. Gotta try it out for ol' time sake

Oilers are legit. Their offense may be my favorite on the game after Philly. The WR's make lots of jump-catches against coverage, similar to the 49ers. Moon also has some decent wheels, which really comes in handy to make tough first downs against good opponents. Problem with the Oilers, like the Raiders, is defense.

randall cunningham was the eagles qb. i would max out his rushing and passing yards in the season and it wouldn't accrue anymore. also even though he was a dt, clyde simmons was unstoppable. i could use him to crush the qb or drop back and intercept. oilers were probably the most fun to be just because of the passing prowess. best balanced offense had to be the bills though. i loved how you could throw the ball the length of the field with any qb in the game.

Cowboys. The Big 3 + Alvin Harper on O. Charles Haley on D. I own all of you.
