Teams With Open Date To Replace UAB

For anyone scared to play a Miami or ECU, I say it's time to see what we're made of. Forget trying to "win our first game", bust the a$$ of anyone who thinks they can hang with us. I hate that some of our fans have an inferiority complex ... We're the team to beat! As CBJ once said ... "Come get you some!"

Except we play Oklahoma this year and Bama every year already... flawed logic when we desperately need wins.

During the 90's FLA opened with the following:

Oklahoma St./Bama
San Jose St./Bama
UK/UT
Ark. St./UK
New Mexico St./UK
Houston/UK
La. Lafayette/Georgia Southern
So. Miss/Central Mich.
Citadel/La. Monroe
Western Michigan/Central Mich.

While we were being tough-guys bashing with the likes of UCLA, Syracuse and Georgia year after year and losing to FLA 7/3 on that matchup, they were coasting to the third game for most of the decade. Remember now, this was when both our programs were pretty close to the best in the country for the whole decade and who won our matchup determined who played for championships and who got to deal with teams like Nebraska for two post seasons.

I remember quite clearly hating Spurrier for those cake openers while we had to brawl through 3 openers year after year, getting our guys injured in non-conference games while his guys stayed fresher. In my book, two cake openers and a cake homecoming game is perfectly acceptable football in this league. Now I'm new to posting here and I don't want to start a fight, just stating my opinion in a respectful way.

I want my guys healthy for the conference and I don't want to be forced to show my playbook until then either.

We lost 7/10 cause of who was in charge on each sideline and because we've pissed ourselves for the last 20 yrs when we walkout and see blue and orange. If Vandy and Mason had suited up in Orange and blue we would've lost Saturday.

Yep, you get better by playing a scrub team every week. If you want to play crappy teams week in and week out become a big ten fan.

General Neyland completely disagrees with you. In fact, he purposefully scheduled easy games between the difficult games. He called these games "breathers.,

Which team do we ALREADY have scheduled that I said we should duck. Sounds like you're one of those all balls no brains types that thought we "would whoop Oregon's ass", and then wanted to " fire Butch" when we didn't make a bowl game.

The reason we did not make a bowl game had nothing to do with losing to Oregon. It was a bonehead fake FG against Vandy that knocked us out.

It would be interesting hear that said to a room containing Raynoch Thompson, John Henderson, Deon Grant, Albert Haynesworth, Leonard Little, Al Wilson, Dale Carter, Charlie Garner, Little Man Stewart, Jay Graham, Travis Henry, Jason Witten, Antone Davis, Cosey Coleman, Carl Pickens, et al, by a person in the same room.

But I digress...

La Tech, Rice, or Bowling Green please. I'll take as easy of a game as we can find to start the season.

Blows my mind that people want another difficult opponent with Oklahoma coming to Knoxville the next weekend. We finally have a little bit of an easier schedule. Let's keep it that way.

I suspect UTAD to scramble and fill the slot with a Montana State or someone similar. No schools from any of the power conferences will be scheduled,, especially considering 7 days after this game, Oklahoma comes to town with Big game Bob.

How special is Oklahoma? Not very. We were very competitive in a hostile environment. Alabama is on the schedule every year, we're gonna eventually beat them. One quarter of horrible defense, we're in there. Call me optimistic, but we're ready.

Who would you prefer on this list? All of these teams need an opponent for 2015 and have an open date on 09/05

I like the idea of playing Rice. They are a former member of the old South West Conference, and have a decent fan base for the neutral site game. Maybe an upgrade from UAB, but not a huge one. And since we want to pull recruits out of Texas, there should be plenty of future recruits watching the game down there.

Sure sounds like you want to duck a team.

I know we have a tough schedule, but being a puss about who we schedule is not the answer.

You've obviously got no idea about the physical aspect of playing power 5 caliber teams week after week. We don't have enough depth as it is so let's just pound the ****e out of the boys so we have to struggle in November. Good plan!

It's true. Business is business. UT will schedule a "guaranteed win" if UAB goes.

ECU. I think it would be an interesting matchup and I bet their fans would travel well.

We do not want anything to do with Air Force. Triple Option Offense that is known for its chop blocks.

Bc is the wisest pick, IMO. Tough team, a little prestige, and can beat em with athletes.

I really want ECU. They'll be losing their senior QB and WR. Their defense is atrocious. They're in the AAC and were ranked this year. It's a team we'll beat handily, but will look better than it should.
