Team meeting in Colorado Springs

What defense did Bill Parcells run at West Point as DC and what offense did he use when he was HFC at Air Force before going to the Giants' organization as DC?

I'm not saying he'll run the option here. I can't say that as a fact, but it doesn't make sense. Tennessee has been a Pro-Style school, and it's team is based on that from a talent stand point, for decades.

I am saying that is what people are going to associate him by. If Calhoun can keep the Pro-Style staff and they can convince our recruits that this will be a pro-style offense, it won't be too bad.

If Calhoun brings in his own staff, you can expect a mass exodus... because that is what every coach in the US will be saying to these kids that have already been played by one coaching staff at UT.

Does no one remember how sceptical we all were about Bruce Pearl...I guarantee we will all be there the first Sat. in Sept. at the vol walk cheering his name...I HIGHLY doubt he runs the option here..he only ran it at AF because the talent was so low...he will run a pro style...

Its great to be a Tennessee Vol!!

If the dude can get teenaged boys to commit to five years in the Air Force after they finish playing football, then he should be able to bring them to Tennessee. Whoever said he didn't have to recruit because the academies are by appointment is wrong.

By the way, we don't want his staff to recruit like Kiffin's staff did. We want the same results with above board tactics.

You dont recruit to the Air Force Academy..... It is a service academy. Most athletes, if not all, at Air Force went their for the "Air Force" not their sports programs. The fact that some play football or other sports is only a bonus to them!!

I believe this recruiting class will be affected in some negative manner no matter who gets the job now. Calhoun actually has an attractive resume. Some of you guys need to check it out. NFL experience, FBS experience with the right staff, I think he would be a good hire.

not true, players do get recruited for service academies. They then have to make the decision whether military life is for them. They may not go after the 5* guys but they do go after some

then they've done pretty well for only having an intramural football team.

well ok....

What is air force recruiting ranking this year? What about last year? or the year before that?

Get this air force is working on the 99th best class in America with, get this now, two 3-star recruits.

2009 recruting ranking was an eye-popping 118th in the nation.

And finally, 2008.... wait for it..... 106th in D-1.

Wow those numbers are dizzying!!!

Yet they still beat the dogs**t out of Houston in their bowl game. The same Sumlin that keeps popping up at the top of coaching short lists.

like I said, you have higher academic standards and must convince these kids to enter military service. Sorry you don't seem to understand the difficulties

Jake Schaller, the reporter from the Colorado Springs Gazette was just on the Sports Monster here in the Tri-Cities. He said he could not confirm either way about Calhoun and UT. He said they have definitely scheduled a team meeting for this afternoon but he did not know what it was about. He said when asked about the UT job, Calhoun went around the question and just said he was the coach at the Air Force Academy. He also said Air Force's Def. Coordinator has been pursued by lots of teams and had interviews in the past few weeks and they are expecting him to go to Texas A&M. He said that could be what the meeting is about. He said it could also be Calhoun saying he is not going anywhere. He did seem to think Calhoun does have interest in the UT job and there have been talks between Calhoun and UT. He however, could not confirm if he has been hired or even been offered the job.

He did say Calhoun was a very good coach and a very smart guy. He said that when most people think of the Air Force, they think option. He said that is not the case with Calhoun. He said Calhoun had planned on opening up the offense at the Air Force originally but quickly realized the triple option was the best offense to run there. He said Calhoun would not have any problem with a Pro-Style or any other type of offensive system.

They are trying to get someone else on from the Colorado Springs area to do an interview. I will post what they say, if they are able to do that.

Because he is not worthy to coach at our school. We are UT not New Mexico State or Air Force.

We're not the Denver Broncos or Houston Texans either..

It should be noted that he's also not worthy of beating Notre Dame on their home field..

He's also not worthy of winning coach of the year honors in a conference that includes Kyle Whittingham and Bronco Mendenhall.

Im am just saying that Calhoun's resume is glarringly weak in the recruiting area. And the type of people that go to Air Force are really not representative of major college athletics.

They don't get arrested?

Whether or not those who go to Air Force are representative of major college sports doesn't change the fact that they directly compete with a lot of schools who are. The service academies face a talent deficit in every single game that they play.

There's a lot more to being a good head football coach than recruiting.

In fact, ideally, the main recruiters would be the position coaches who will most directly influence the players development after they sign.

The same stuff was true of Paul Johnson when he left Navy to coach Georgia Tech.

And he's doing just fine.

I'll tell you what bothers me most...Were Tennessee, and none of the good coaches wanna come here...why is that???

you guys are nuts. Calhoun is a great coach with great experience...do some research on the guy and get more information on him other than the WAC conference and running the Flexbone offense.

Speaking of research, Air Force is in the Mountain West Conference.

You may also want to find out how his team performs defensively, as well.

Because only snakes leave a program in the lurch with 3 weeks until national signing day. I'm sure it is also hard to sell really good coaches on a program that needs national recruiting in what is the equivalent of about 3 days.
